Golf Ball Fitting

I read an article in a golf magazine about Golf Ball Fittings, The Bridgestone Challenge Ball Fitting Program, challenges you to use your ball against a Bridgestone, and there are similar programs with other manufacturers. The data gleaned from these tests find that 70% of those tested are using the wrong ball. Some found gains of over 21 yards, and I am not so sure that this can be attributable to a ball change.

So, has anyone been fitted for a “ball”; or changed balls and had a discernable change in their game?

Thanks,

James

Re: Golf Ball Fitting

I haven't been fitted but I've switched to lower compression low-spin balls. The low compression gives me decent distance and, more important, tactile feedback on my ball striking. Low spin means less hooking and slicing. It also means less possibility of getting the ball to backspin on the green, but those shots are beyond my level anyway so it doesn't matter.

Re: Golf Ball Fitting

I think over the years I have used just about every ball made. They all pretty much went the same distance for me. I have graduated down from the high compression balls to where I am now using lower compression, senior balls, with less spin. I don't have the swing speed I had 20 years ago.

The biggest gripe I have with golf balls is than when a manufacturer does come out with a ball that gives me significant, positive, playability, after a couple of years they come out with the new improved version, which usually is not as playable for me.

There was ball out years ago made by Topflite, or maybe Titleist that had the word "power" mark on it, Best ball I ever play with. It was on the market for only few years, and was replaced. It's replacement was not worth the effort. GJS

Re: Golf Ball Fitting

What many people don't realize is that the Pro V1's can really harm your game if you aren't an experienced player. They spin so much that if you aren't very accurate already and you slice or hook, they will actually increase your slice or hook because of the spin. I've seen numerous hackers who use that ball thinking it will make them better but it can make them worse in reality
