Rotation of the arms

Just thought I would bring it to the member forum so we could talk about it.

Here's something for getting more distance:
As you start your downswing, try to hold the butt end of the club pointing down the line as long as possible, then rotate your forearms at impact. With a little practice, you will be hitting crisp and long as well as straight or with a draw.
Anybody try this??
I would say this is a classic swinger's swing. I've discussed this with my friend who is a long distance swinger. He said, it feels like if he can delay the release until his hands are around his thigh that is a good feeling for him.

I being a hitter keep my left arm comfortable straight and concentrate on a 90* turn of the whole front arm. A slow roll of the arm through the backswing. The arm looks like a figure 7. The shoulder line is the top of the 7 and the front arm is the bottom line. The hip pivot and shoulder turn move the club to the top of the backswing. This position is maintained until after release. The front arm never moves in front of the body in a hitters swing.

Food for thought,

GolfBald

Can you be a bit more specific about this?

Thanks! (my downswing is killing me!)

Cool Clear as mud

I received a request to be more clear on this concept of pointing the butt end of the club down the line. Here it is:
Down the line means down the ball to target line-if you stand behind the ball and look at the target-this is the line I am refering to. Of course, when we line up a shot, we usually aim to the left of this line with our bodies or we would be hitting everything right of the target.
Pointing the butt end of the club down the ball to target line on the downswing means getting the feeling of pulling the club from the top with the body as a whole not the arms alone. By taking practice swings, try to hold the position at the top but bring everything down together. This will almost certainly bring your club's butt end(where you hold the club by the grip) down the line. Try to hold this position for as long as possible, some folks hold the position until the hands are at least thigh level, then, and this is where it gets really good, release the hands and let it fly.
It takes alot longer to explain this concept than it should but there's alot happening in that nanosecond we call a downswing.
Again, summarizing-take a good triangle takeaway to the top where the right arm forms a right angle"L" position and the left arm is relatively straight but not inflexible. At this point, some people like to feel a pause whether it happens or not. Then, begin the downswing slowly by just letting the arms, shoulders, and hands drop into the slot as the hips lead the way into the back of the ball. At impact, rotate the forearms which squares up the club face.
Practice the downswing move from the top without hitting the ball and feel the tremendous power you have-this gives you confidence that you don't have to swing hard.
Hope this helps.
