| Ticks "One" off the golfing to do list...... It is completely fair to say that I had honestly thought I might play golf for another 25 years and never put a check mark beside this particular item on my golfing "To Do List". But, come the 17th hole at Curlewis GC last Friday during the first round of my 3 day, 3 round, golf club road trip, little did I realise I was about to just that...... Had been striking the ball really well all day and was a couple of strokes under handicap or thereabouts and on arriving on the 17th tee, we found ourselves looking at a little 138m (151yd) par 3. http://www.curlewisgolf.com.au/course/17th.htm Given the big dry on down here, the water in the photo is all but gone, but still with the green having 3 tiers to it, it looked a pretty sight. On this tee, I was last away, having just fallen in for a bogey on the last, when all in my group had made no worse than par. After watching all off my playing partners miss the green with their tee shots, I was up. Despite normally hitting a 9 iron this length, I pulled 8, thinking just a little easy 8 was all that was required to hit the putting surface and then 2 putts for a par was the plan. Went through my psr and pulled the trigger. Cleanly struck, the ball flew high and straight at the pin. Time seemed to stand still as the ball was in flight. "That's close" came one call, "Great shot" came another. The ball pitched just short and took one small hop forward and then rolled towards the pin. I was staring it down, then the boys were screaming, it had gone in......!!!! My first golfing hole in one...... Then, I let go a few screams of my own... The congratulations were hearty and being the 17th hole, we didn't need to wait too long for the first of many ice cold frothies after the round... It was one of the topics of discussion over dinner at the local afterwards and at one point I had gone to the bar to get my round and the barman asked me "Hey, are you the guy who had the hole in one at Curlewis today...????" Very happy...... Thanks for reading. Cheers ![]()
