I'll put the bump and run on my practice list along with the bunkers - putting is always there ofcourse in an attempt to keep under 30ppr. My problem with bunkers is mainly where (like my pay and play) there is next to no sand and very small greens; I really don't know how to play those and therefore never really commit to the shot. You're so right about repeatedly getting into that position as well. The thing that hurts most this time is that I got the tee shot away which is where the pressure would normally tell and played the hole sensibly before blowing it.

![]() TBH Neil for now I'll settle for consolidating around that mark as a regular not one off score with the knowledge that something nearer 80 could pop up at any time - as of course could a 90+ like I did last week at a different course ![]() |

| Re: Phew - A new PB - Just The answer here is the 'chunk and run'. You open the face just a little and hit behind the ball as normal. The club digs into what little sand there is and the ball comes out hot. In other words, if you're short sided you'll like have some work with the flatstick. |

The PB will stand as long as the British Empire if today's round is anything to go by ![]() Not only was I spraying it everywhere but thats nothing new - mostly pulls but a couple of S****S to add to the fun - but had no short game and kept leaving putts short (when they weren't pulled as well). I take some comfort that just not playing well at all I only sank to a 93 with 35 putts compared with last weeks 85 and 27 rather than 103 or 113 as once would have been the case.Doing the maths just proves once again how the short game can save your round - or not in this case ![]() Anyway enough of that and back to the question I meant to ask based on today's round. Do y'all ever have a round where you just can't settle, the routine doesn't seem right, the set up feels off, almost every shot - including putts - is a bit of a fidget? And, if so, what do you do about it?

You forgot a fundamental golf law: Your score after a personal best will be directly proportional to the number of people you tell. When I'm skanking it around the course (as I did when I shot 87), you just struggle through. For me, the answer seems to be to take one more club, shorten and smooth out my swing just a bit. |

![]() A new milestone today; managed the back 9 in 40 dead (5 over), the first time I've been that low. The front 9 unfortunately was a 46 so I was one stroke outside my PB of 85. On the bright side though that 85 only had 27 putts - including iirc a hot streak of 7 "singles" on the bounce today I had 33 putts - no threes though. So ALL I've got to do now is put two of those together actually next time I'm quite prepared and expecting to be back in the nineties where a 20+ handicapper belongs as long as the long term trend is in the right direction.
