Re: new to golf, made a 78

I think it's possible, I was shooting low 80's after 6 months when I was 15. At 16 and 1/2 I actually shot a Even Round.

Since then I have had so many injuries and Problem with my body, my game has gone out the window and is hard to get it back to where it was. But I am working on it.

Anyway, off to the Course to play at least 9 holes, gonna practice my swing tempo.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

I've been playing for a few months now... maybe 5 or 6... At first I was hitting over 70 on 9 holes, after 2 months it was down to regular 55's and recently I've managed to hit under 100 for a full 18 holes.

The lowest score I've had on 9 holes ever was 2 weeks ago.... I got 42... only 7 over the par 35

I've recently been taking lessons to improve my short game, so hopefully by spring, I'll be breaking 90 for a full 18 holes, and maybe get under 40 for my 9s

Just picked up a Mizuno MP T-Series 60 degree wedge (5 degree bounce) so I'm hoping that'll help improve my game too.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

ive been playing since the date below and the low 80s are easily attainable, its not that hard, all you need is a few birdies and a few pars and you got that score

i dont see where it is so hard, ive got my dad playing he has been playing for 3 weeks or so and ive got him down from his first round of 130 something to the mid 90s

Re: new to golf, made a 78

I also have questions

I started golf about 1 month ago, took 4 lessons (1 per week)
and the golf pro said I could reach handicap 36 in april
this meaning I could then get my practice exam and go on course

this said, I wonder how you can go playing without having any handicap
any golf course I've been don't alow players on the course unless they have a handicap

Since you've said you don't have your handicap yet, how is all this possible ??

I have to add that I play field hockey all my life wich gave me a big help in learning golf
being young is also a plus: you're 18 so that explains something

do you actually mean that before 2 months you never in your life hit a golf ball??

lucky you, I guess.
at my club you're not allowed to play on the course unless you have a handicap
the only thing i'm allowed to do is practice at the driving range
and it's like that at every club in my country, and I thought everywhere in the world

Re: new to golf, made a 78

Some of you guys hit some insane scores.

I have been playing for about 5 months and I just hit my best round ever of a 93.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

Here in Australia you have to play 3 rounds and have it witnessed and signed by another Club Member, then you get your Club HandiCap, then you play another 2 and it's turned into a National HandiCap.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

In Belgium we first have to pass a theoretical (the rules of golf) en practical exam (hit 10 balls straight over 100 meter, hit some bunkershots, do some putting, etc) before we are allowed to go on course: then you dont have the handicap yet

to get your handicap you have to play a few courses, whitnesed by the captain of your club, and you have to get a certain result (this result depends on the dificulty of the course), so it's similar to what eastley said

I started taking lessons in december and the golf pro said I should get my handicap in april

problem is I don't have much time to go practicing: only twice a week for 1 hour

Took me 8 Days and I had my HandiCap Now it's at 25 and shrinking fast.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

I think in belgium it's just plain impossible to get your handicap in 8 days
because of the system they use here

btw: what time is it now over there? here it's 9:19 am
