Re: new to golf, made a 78

The difference is maybe also that golf is in Belgium quiet an elite sport
not so many people play it
it has kind of a "rich mens game" label
while this is actually not true
in my club the practice member ship is free (2 euro for a full bucket of balls)
paying member ship for 1 year for the golf course is about 550 euro

Re: new to golf, made a 78

Well I am struggling..

On the 25th of March I went and hit a 82, with a 38 on the back.

I then had another lesson and found some slight problems, the Pro fixed those and off I went. Since then I have done nothing but push and slice the ball, hardly hit a good round, infact today I hit a 88, I am off 16HCP now so atleast I hit to it today.

If I swing to hard with my driver I slice, well a guy today said I swing it like a bull out of a gate, but to me it feels like I am only swinging it 50% power.

Within 7 days I took 6 strokes off my Handicap and was on fire, now after that 1 lesson I suck bad.

And went and checked my records and I have been playing exactly 4 months today. So in 4 months I have a best round of 82, and am off a HandiCap of 16. Won numerous local competitions and even snagged the odd longest drive in my Grade.

I still want to do better and do it fast, as membership runs out in 2 months time and I want to try get down to a HCP of 12 by then..

Re: new to golf, made a 78

Hi Eastley,

I can relate to your feeling. I started to play in mid August, but could do only 4 rounds before we had snow. (Got my green card in late September.)

Now I am still waiting for the course to open. It will take about one month more. After that I want to drop my HCP from 41 to sigle digits in four months:-)

I think that your 78 would be enough, but need to be repeated few times:-)

Good luck to you.

Hannu

Cool Re: new to golf, made a 78

if he shot 78 after only 2 months with no lessons ..this cat must be a natural..Hell with a little coaching he could be another phenom. Now you played every shot where it lay and no mulligans..correct??

Re: new to golf, made a 78

What would be a situation when you can use a mulligan? - If you play by the rules?
- When a ball hits an animal or a ball is picked up by an outsider?
(If an outsider picks it up, you can drop a new ball where your ball was laying.)

Or if you open from a tee so that you are not in the two club zone? Your can be asked to open again, with out a penalty.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

that was no mulligans, but im still just shooting mid to high 70s, after that 78 i lost my natural swing, watched the golf channel too much, didnt know it but i was ruining a good swing for a couple months, now the last month ive been shooting mid to high 70s, with one even par front 9, only thing i need to works on really is hitting more GIRs and ill be shooting par

my driving, putting and chipping are close to scratch

a muligan is say like i just sliced my driver shot into the next county, no one is looking throw another one down hit it good(dont you love second shots) and dont count the 2 strokes from hitting it OB

Re: new to golf, made a 78

greens in regulation(GIR) is being on the green in 2 shots on a par 4, being on the green in 3 shots on a par 5, and being on the green in 1 shot on a par 3

basically if you are on the green and putting for birdie than you have a GIR

Re: new to golf, made a 78

I use an on-line score card to record my rounds. It's in Finnish and "GIR" is "Greeniosuma". Loose translation would be a "green hit".

I just did not know that it is called "GIR".

I want to make GIRs too.
