Cool new to golf, made a 78

hey guys, i just started playing golf 2 months ago and let me tell you im addicted as heeellllll. i dont know why but its the funnest thing in the world.

i started 2 months ago, i went and bought a starter set from wal-mart, good but bad idea, i cant hit the driver worth a ****, slice almost boomerangs it is so bad, after some research and advice i started using my 5 wood because it has a stiffer rod, much better but only hitting 230-245, im thinking with a driver i should get 280+ im thinking, but anyways my first times out i would do good except for the driving and that would constitute to my around 100 scores

well i went for the fist time and only used me 5 wood for driving, my score was a 78, much much much better i got my first 2 birdies in that round and i think 9 pars. after reading alot of post i realized i must be doing good to make a 78 after 2 months of playing

well thats my glory story, im going back friday and hopefully fix some of my errors and shoot a little better

thanks for reading,
darrell

Re: new to golf, made a 78

All I can say is...after 2 years, I'm just getting to where I can hit 240 pretty consistently...with my DRIVER. And I'm getting close to breaking 100, but not there yet.

I'd say anyone who can shoot a 78 after two months of play is a golf prodigy and probably should think about giving up the day job.

Sorry to be the pessimist in the bunch, but there's got to be more to this story. That's simply not possible.

Sounds great!
What par/length is the course?
Do you have a handicap yet?

Re: new to golf, made a 78

Good stuff. I've been playing for 2 years (well, 15 months... damn Canadian snow!) and have just broken 100 this year.

Congrats on the quick 78! How many one putts did you have?

Re: new to golf, made a 78

How many shots did it take you to get through the windmill? LOL.

If you shot a 78 on a par 72 course,I'm impressed. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the fact that you have only been playing for two months makes it really hard to believe.

You're in my neck of the woods, Griffin City Park. My buddy played over there last week. Being the 250 handicap I am, he said I would like that course as he shot 11 over and is usually a mid 20's handicap. I live south of Griffin and I usually play at The Pines, The Cedars, Hickory Ridge, Pebblebrook, Roosevelt, Beaver Lake. I've been playing for about 4 months now and my best has been +10 on 9 holes...a good round for me is 100.

Re: new to golf, made a 78

Shooting a 78 after 2 months is an amazing achievement.

It took me 3 years and a lot of practice before I broke 80.
You will soon learn that the key to the game is consistency.

I've shot a par round one day followed by a 15 over the next.
Golf is such a frustrating game but also very addictive.

It only takes one really good shot at the end of a bad round to make you crave the next game.

I'm still not buying a 78 after two months... Like I said, there's more to this story.
