my first competive par!

hi all,
you'll have to excuse my excitement as this probably seems like small potatoes to some of you. as i have posted elsewhere on gto about my first ever competitive round of golf yesterday but really wanted to share this with you.
i walked up to the 11th tee at heaton park manchester stroke index 5(renowned as one of the top 10 hardest par 3's in britain) you see a raised green 187yds away in between you and the green is a ravine possibly 40ft deep full of tall trees you must carry 155yds to clear trees anyway i hit a sweet 4i into a left to right wind and saw my shot land on the green only to spin back off it to finish down the slope 20ish feet away. i played a nice chip to maybe 3 inches from the hole and spent an age putting it in! my first ever competitive par and 4 points for the team i went on to score 38 points and my team won the comp by 1 point!!!

Hey man.

Congrats on the par. How did you like Heaton Park GC? I knew a guy that played that course quite a bit.

Re: my first competive par!

hi tj,
ive only been playing just over 12 months and have played at 2 or 3 courses round manchester but this one is totally different to anything ive seen it is very physical and there are not many flat surfaces to hit off the fairways slope all over the place. to be honest i really enjoyed it (mainly because i had an awesome round)cant wait to play it in summer as the weather was atrocious when we played on sunday

Slats,

Now you know you can do it. Try and remember how you felt this day on the course and replicate it in future rounds.

Feel/emotion is important in this game. Keep the positive thoughts.

hey nicole,
apart from the weather it was a real buzz to hit some great shots that day making me realise i could become a good player. so much so im changing the way i approach the game going to have regular lessons to ingrain the fundamentals, spend more time at the range instead of out on course and like ive said elsewhere leave the comfort zone im currently in to hopefully become a better player!
be lucky
