Broke 80

Until today my best round had been an 81. I've scored 81 a few times and always felt like if I could clean up just a few things I could break 80. I was so inspired by this past weeks US Open and Phil Mickelson especially inspired me regarding playing smart (what a blow up he had on the last few holes - stupid!).

Played a local course today and did it - I broke 80!!!!!! Shot a 38 on the front and another 38 on the back. I'm learning not to compound bad shots with another bad shot. Take your lumps and if you can get out of a hole with a bogey that's not so bad.

I guess the goal for the rest of this year will be to try and nibble the score down just a few shots to par goal, but I'm thrilled with the results of todays round so I'll bask in that for awhile.

Re: Broke 80

breaking 80 is a hard goal to attain, great job. i agree with you about course management. I dropped my scores once I started playing a course that took the driver out of my hands on quite a few holes. I started to realize that on some holes it was a smarter play to put it in the 150-180 out range and be safe rather then to try and bomb it to have a wedge.

Re: Broke 80

congrats man, ive recently got into the 70s almost everytime, and now ive fount out that having a great short game really is the most important thing, what gets me most of the time is missing a green by a few yards and you HAVE to get up and down or you have to make a good many birdies too
