I BROKE 80.........yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What a day........I have been studying at the feet of Greg J. Willis. Someone sent me a link to his teaching site and boy has it helped me. So, we travel to Birmingham, Al to visit the inlaws and my parents. So, since I did not have to preach today, I thought I would play golf. So, we get to Bham about 11:00 am and I call around and find a course about 10 minutes from my in-laws. I remember this course and i have played it one time(Mountain View). So, I get my stuff and locate the course....not wanting to play by myself, I chip, putt, stretch until a twosome walks up....

I asked them did they mind me playing with them, they say of course not. So while we are checking in the older gentleman ask me am I a scratch golfer....I laugh and say o heck no............

SO we proceed to play......I bogey the first hole.....then on the second hole, I land one about 35 feet from the pin.....I eye the putt....I rare back and putt....its going its going...and DIES in the hole.....I knew it was going to be a beautiful day.....uh ohhhh...I double bogey the next hole....then I rattle off 4 straight pars.....the course was playing short today so all I had to tee off with was my 3 wood and I was hitting it straight....I hit 12 out of 14 fairways.....so I finish the front 9...+3.

Ok, the back nine opens with a par 5....two shots I am on the green......putt....miss eagle....3 foot birdie putt....sunk it......so I am -1 in 3 holes on the back til I bogey a par 3 with a 3 putt...... who's complaining.....LOL next par 5...drive of the day.....from the whites this par 5 is only 396 but its straight uphill and then levels off. So the guys crack me and say, since you are playing so well...try to hit your driver to the top of the hill.....and if you make it...you will be left with a wedge to the green...I am feeling like Tiger Woods by this point...pull out my Father's day gift....9 degree Nike Sasquatch driver....boom...I hit it 320...pass the top of the hill...they look at each other....he's the man...hahahahahahahahahah!!!!!! I stuck a PW to the fringe.....missed eagle putt...tap in birdie....I finished the back nine +1....

It's a par 71 course....I shot a 75.......I am so stoked right now.

Two things I gleaned from today.....

(a) Playing smart golf.....
(b) When in doubt...go up a club.

Luv this game!!!!!!!!!!

Well done Preacher - an excellent achievement.

Maybe if I keep praying (and practicing) I too will finally reach the 'promised land' of sub-80 before the end of the season.

The hardest part about a carrer round is that 97.5% of the time, your next round will be worse...by how much? That is what makes the heart pound on the first tee.

Keep the addrenalin at bay, your mind on the task at hand, and each shot just a continuation of the same level of confidence you had during that last round, and you can do it!

Preacher,

Good for You! God is Good. My goal is to break the 80s as well. I just broke the 90s so I have a ways to go to reach You. Hope the sun in NW Florida continues to shine a bit longer.

Barry
