All my eagles have come on par 4's

I have been lucky enough to have had 4 eagles and an albatross in my golfing life and not one of them has come on a par 5. Has anybody else had this kind of stat, with my length off the tee I would of thought that I would have had an eagle by now on a par 5, although I have had a few opportunities they just dont seem to drop.

Re: All my eagles have come on par 4's

Hi Lee,

This is very unusual, there must be very short par 4s and very long par 5s at your course, however the pressure is the same with the putt so there is no real reason why you don't get to par 5s or sink the putts.

I notice you play off 15 so there are clearly some need for improvement if you are as long as you think, I suspect you are not controlled with the length, pehaps sacrific some length for acuracy.

Getting on the par 5s is usually a case of once you do it a couple of times you become confident and get on more often it's just a matter of breaking the duck, once you get an eagle I am sure you will have many more.

I suggest you work on the weakness in your game and get more birdies, this will lower you h/capp.

Good Luck

Ian.

Re: All my eagles have come on par 4's

I dont tend to play the same course all the time so holes vary. The par 4's range from 250 yards upto 296 yards where I got my albatross. I am trying to calm things down with my swing, in the past its been a bit grip it and rip but just recently I am alot more controlled and I believe I am now playing the best golf of my life, for a few years now I have been dogged by the dredded slice, i have seen pros and didnt really get anywhere but I now feel I know my swing well enough to work out whats wrong. I have been coming over the top and also releasing too early with my hands, i have been working on this for a few weeks and it is starting to bear fruit, i have been concentrating on the late hit and trying not to chuck my whole body at the ball. Its true that I could work on my putting more but its finding the time to fit it all in. I have a good short game so all in all im hoping to see my handicap come down soon. I shall be working hard over the winter to make sure I come out next year all guns blazing. Oh and I have also been working on course strategy, where as before I would take the big stick most of the time I now play short of trouble and try and keep it on the short stuff.

thanks for you advice

It most certainly would, it remains my greatest ever golfing achievement. 296 yards of pure magic, still cant believe it even now, I keep thinking its a dream.

Re: All my eagles have come on par 4's

It's probably a reflection on your strengths and weaknesses as a golfer .

As a big hitter, most par 4's are within reach especially off the yellow tees so your chance of reaching the green to putt for an eagle is pretty high.

As a big hitter with a medium handicap (15) you are probably less likely to get to a par 5 green in 2 as you need 2 long and straight hits in a row. That, along with the relative rarity of par 5's compared to par 4's is probably why.

This post is completely fueled by my envy at your record of eagles and HIO as I've never done it

Re: All my eagles have come on par 4's

Im just lucky I guess but I have had quite a few chances on par 5s but my putting sometimes lets me down, the moral of this story: drive for show, putt for dough. I had better practice with the flat stick.

Re: All my eagles have come on par 4's

Not as yet Leepy (unfortunately!).

As the weather is closing in, I might have to wait until spring to get any new irons. The good news is that gives me the entire winter to try out all the irons like the MP-32, Titleist MB 695 and maybe even the MP-67's (although I would need to work hard to be good enough for those!).
