Thankfully, now life has "changed" again, this time for the better and I am now keen and looking to go lower... A club round tomorrow and a Pennant match on Sunday this weekend. Very happy in my skin just at the moment... Cheers ![]() |

| Re: Broke my PB, but not 80.... Nice. I played over the weekend and hit 15 greens in regulation and still golfed my handicap--which sucks... I walked away happy with the game, but knew that I had just given away the game of my life to bad putts and chips... time to focus on the short game again.... let it slide practicing my iron and driver play... Great game isn't it????!!!! |

| Re: Broke my PB, but not 80.... Yet another PB last weekend... On Saturday, in my Club Comp round (Stableford being the comp of the day) whilst I only carded 34 points (91 off the bat), I managed to score at least 1 point on every hole. For me, this is a good thing because it meanse the "blow outs" left me alone for the day... 10 bogies, 5 doubles and 3 pars. All in all very consistent with no full shots that I would consider "poor". Yes, my short game still needs some work... Sunday was the good round for me... In my Pennant match at Olinda GC, I won my match 3 and 2 and at that point I was 9 over the card for the 16 holes played. My opponent and I decided we would play out the last 2 holes and I went par, bogey to finish the day with a 10 over the card 80 off the stick. This was all the more exciting for me because not only did I achieve this in the environment of a Pennant match play match, it was also on a course I had never seen before, with recently cored greens and hills that would frighten mountain goats. This weekend I have another 2 rounds, club comp round Saturday and another Pennant match on Sunday (away at Craigieburn GC). I have played this course before and am looking forward to more consistency and again going low... The beauty of going low in Pennant it seems is that the Handicapper's Scissors don't get to see my results... I guess that now makes me my Pennant Captain's number one "bandit"... Cheers ![]()

| Re: Broke my PB, but not 80.... Given I usually only play one round a fortnight under normal circumstances, I'm thinking the fact that I will have had 8 rounds in 4 weeks is probably what is leading to my improved consistency and subsequently I'm scoring better as well... Plus, I made a small grip change last week and it seems to be paying off as well.... Good luck getting those cards together, Slats... Looking forward to swapping comp round tales with you... Cheers ![]() |

Not a comp but just a fairly regular Sunday morning 3-ball. Doubled the first 3 holes then somehow pulled myself together for an outward 45 (versus 35) so was pretty pleased, not only just 4 over for 6 holes but also not collapsing following the start. Then, feeling pretty good, disaster struck, having doubled the 10th because of a 3 putt but having shrugged it off and moved on I'm playing my 3rd to a Par 5 - c150yd to the front. Shanked the approach into a bunker on the next fairway feeling shaken manage to escape with a double, next hole shanked the tee shot and proceeded up the fairway looking like a first timer for a triple, messed up the next Par 3 and limped home with a 50.So a 95 against a previous outing (and PB) of 86 - those blow up holes really will do for you ! Got to love the game really ![]()

| Re: Broke my PB, but not 80.... You guys are really flying these days, even considering the odd blow ups. I can remember a rather more despondent group last year who were considering breaking the clubs and wondering what on earth you needed to do to break 100. It's great to hear the way you have improved and what parts of your games have changed and what you are working on. My game has been a little changeable recently, mainly due to experimenting with new gear. I have put my new Bang driver on garden leave and my G2 is giving really good results now. I purchased a new Taylormade Dual 19 deg Recovery recently and have removed my 5 wood, this new club is a great tool and so versatile for long fairway shots, stingers and even chips from the rough. Time to settle down with the sticks now and spend a bit more time on the mental and course management side which seems to make such a difference to me when playing competitively.

| Re: Broke my PB, but not 80.... Hey Brian, you mentioned the mental/course management side of things in our game and it caused me to wonder if the fact that I have played so many Match Play rounds in the last couple of months has been a contributing factor in my improved results. Certainly when playing matches I do forget all about the score and focus solely on what I need to do to either win or halve the hole we are playing. I think this is probably borne out somewhat by the fact that my average club comp score over the last two months is 90 and my average match play score over the 5 rounds I've played in the same time is 83. Interesting... Cheers ![]()
