Graham Arnott (Teaching Professional at Kelrosa Studios)

Graham Arnott

I started playing golf at the age of 13 and within a year my handicap was 9 and my next handicap was 5. I immediately felt a passion for the game and wanted to do nothing else but play golf and be involved in golf. Realistically, I knew I wasn't good enough to make a living playing the game and club/teaching pro positions where not easy to find (or well paid) in South Africa where we have less than 300 golf clubs – especially in the late 1980's.

So after school, I worked in golf retail to pay the bills while I studied to be an accountant for 4 years. I passed my qualifying examinations in mid-1994 and immediately started my own practice. I spent 10 years of my life practicing as an accountant (CPA), building up a practice I was very proud of and after selling the practice dedicated my life to teaching & playing golf, my childhood dream.

In the years I played competitive golf, I once went 3 years without being defeated in match play. I reached my provincial finals a number of times and although I was never ‘a star', I performed reasonably well in both match play and stroke play tournaments. I am determined, manage my game and the course well and don't make too many mistakes.

My teaching career started in 2002, quite by accident. I started helping family and friends at the driving range and on the golf course. After a short while, it extended from friends to other golfers who asked me to help them. Eventually, every time I went to the driving range or played golf, I was teaching.

I have been teaching full-time since 2003 and established Kelrosa Golf Studios, which I hope to build up into a global brand in the future. I use C-Swing software, a Golf Achiever launch monitor and a P3Pro golf simulator in the studio. I take the results of those analyses and build a teaching plan. In the Kelrosa Studio I teach and also do club fitting sessions – which seems to be all the rage at the moment.

My teaching philosophy is built around getting my students to understand the problem, the cause and the solution. I don't believe in band-aid solutions or instructing the student only on how to fix the problem they're having. If they grasp all 3 components the chances of a long-term solution is far higher, I'm convinced of it. My philosophy tends to make my lessons longer (and my post replies longer) but I know through experience it works.

I am a Class ‘A' member of the PGA and a Full Member of the World Golf Teachers Federation.

I have a wonderful wife, Janelle and 3 children (Samantha, Robert and Kelly). None of them play golf but do understand the passion I have for the game and have always supported me and understood my dreams.

My career best round is a 65 at Thornbury near Bristol in October 2003. Having never played the course before, I was delighted with the way I played – with borrowed clubs too!

Thanks
Graham
