Re: golf girls

My girlfreind and I started golfing three years ago when she was asked by her boss to take part in the annual company golf tournament, a best ball scramble. She's in her mid 40's and I'm a bunch of years older than that. She said she thought golf was a very boring game but said she would do it and told me that since she and I didn't know how to swing a club we both had to take some lessons so we wouldn't totally embarrass ourselves. She had a blast although neither of us did very well. We were paired with another couple who were much, much better. Since the idea of the tournament was to have a good time with the company's clients we certainly did that. Our team even won money for having the most honest score, in other words, we came in last. After the tournament we went out a few more times and played at a 9 hole course but since we were still new to golf and it's rules we just wanted to have fun and not worry about scores at this time. She even started to like the game and began watching it on TV.

The next year's tournament was the clincher for her. She hit a pretty straight shot to an elevated green on a par 3. When we all got to the green we couldn't see her ball anywhere. The other woman on our team went to the hole and there it was, my girlfriend had gotten a hole-in-one. This was at a full 18 hole golf course and one of the better ones in the city. You can guess the surprise on her face, as well as the rest of us. The other two players had been playing for years and had never gotten a hole in one before. It didn't take long before the word had spread along the tournament route as to what happened and at the end of the tournament everybody was congratulaing her along with a lot of teasing. Although there wasn't any money to be one at this hole she was still awarded $250. We even won the most honest score again and so she made out pretty good at the tournament. Since then we have played in a few more fun tournaments but still haven't played our first serious game where we've kept scores. It's unfortunate that neither of us know anyone else in our area that likes to play golf so I think that's one of the reasons we don't play that often, besides the fact that we are still new to the game and make lots of mistakes. We are still a little too self conscious because of our skill level to get paired with a couple of serious players so we don't get out to the big courses yet. But we still have lots of fun whether it's at a driving range or the small par 3 course nearby. She is now addicted to the game and is always wanting to go out and hit some balls. This summer she begins an evening undergraduate program at the University of Washington and with a full time job she's afraid she won't have much time for golf but I'll take her out for a quick game or a date to the range so she won't get rusty. And there's always the next company tournament.

Re: golf girls

Gulbis seems to be playing well lately... we look forward to her next calendar display, too.
