ladies were first reported to play golf in a ladies only golf competion at royal muselburgh in 1811 but the first record was of mary stuart (mary queen of the scots) playing mary seaton at musselburgh old couse in 1567. it is reported that the earl of moray reported the two mary's to the westminster commissioners in "articles" 1568, he said she played golf at seaton house two days after the death of her husband and again a few days later at musselburgh, he said it did not show respest to her murded husband the lord darnley and he claimed she was implecated in his death.
mary seaton beat mary stuart at musselburgh and mary stuart gave seaton a neckless as a reward for her fine play and a record of the neckles was at seaton house till it burnt down.
in the 1700s the game of gouf was baned in scotland as it stopped people from there archery and was not aloud till the mid 1500.
the name golf did not mean Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden as it was gouf till the mid 1700 and the word gouf ment to cuff or strike and thats what the old goufers did cuff the ball with there sticks and staffs.
king james 1V of scotland spent 14 shilling in 1502 for gouf clubs made by the bowmakers of johnestoun and it it is said he player at scone palace. he is the first reported sale of a full set of clubs and balls.
the first recorded game was mary seatons win over mary stuart in 1567, so ladies golf goes back a long way.

It does sound like Mary knocked off her husband, hmmm, played two days after his murder. I wonder if she used his clubs

I wonder if she was pregnant...???

Maybe she was frustrated with her swing because couldn't swing the club around her breasts and her hips were too active...???

look up ( the old couse musselburgh.) and you will find out a lot about st andrews and perth and many other courses from the 1500s to the 1800s.
if you cant find anything let me know and i'll look out some sites for you.

Is it true that some players like Sorenstam, Wie and Park can outdrive a few of the PGA players?

Using 2006 Season figures, Karen Sjodin was the longest of the Ladies on the LPGA tour with an average drive of some 284 yards. This would have placed her in a tie for 139th Position on the PGA list with Bob Tway amongst others.

It would also mean that she was longer than Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, Mark Calcavecchia, Justin Leonard and Mark O'Meara to name but a few.

At 261.3 yards and 16th place on the LPGA list, Annika would not have placed in the top 196 as Corey Pavin was the shortest of the men with 265.9 yards.

So, I guess on those figures, the answer to your question is no, they're not.
