pushing tee shots. Hip slide?

Hi there,

I am having a bit of trouble with my tee shots. I am pushing them out to the right a lot. I think I have a tendancy to slide my hips as I rotate them. Would this result in pushed shots?

If I only concentrate on rotating my hips and staying sort of rigid then I notice an improvement (pretty straighti for 250 yards or so). The only problem there is because I am only thinking "dont slide" I have to let everything else be automatic and I hook the ball sometimes then.

any thoughts on hip slide or tips to cut it out?

Paul

kerinsp_29,

(Am writing this post assuming you are left handed. If this is true then a pull is to the right and a push is to the left.)

This one may be difficult to diagnose without a video but some things to check. Ask a clubmaker for an old shaft, take a setup and put the shaft in the ground outside your right hip and angle it in slightly toward your body. Take a few practice swings and look for these things:

1. You should come up to the shaft and move it to vertical at the most, if it angles the other direction (toward the target your hips are sliding.

2. If your right hip slides behind the shaft, then your hips are not turning properly. The right hip is your gate post, the left hip swings to the left of the right.

3. Look at your left foot and make sure your spikes are up and to the rear at the finish. Dollars to donuts you are finishing in the direction the ball is going.

To help correct this, get a peice of 1" pvc pipe cut a 24" length and put lag screws at both ends about 2" ones will do. Pick a target and put a club above the ball on the target line. Take a setup and make a mark behind your heels to set the pvc pipe as a backstop. come in back and look to ensure the club shaft and pvc pipe are parallel. Use a tape measure if your not sure. It will just add to your hitting station. Use the shaft next to your hip. Make swings from hip to hip, this is the bottom of the circle. Make sure the swing is coming into and away from the shaft if front of you. If it starts on the back of the club in front of you and works toward the shaft your pulling it, if the swing is heading toward the front of the club in front of you and not curving back in your pushing it.

If you can master this drill, your will hit it very straight!

Hope this helps, please post any progress or questions,

GolfBald

Thanks golfbald,

I actually posted in the lefties corner by mistake. I am right handed so I will reverse what you posted. I need to read it again though!
