Re: Are leftys right-handed? I am another left hander that does everything else right handed. I have thought that I was at a disadvantage because my right arm is stronger. Recently, I have started to let my left arm take over halfway into the downswing, while still guiding the club with my right. It has really helped with distance. Just wish I could be more consistent with my release through the ball.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I write right-handed, and play tennis right-handed. Pretty much anything which required one hand, I use my right. As for golf, baseball, hockey ... I swing left. The funny thing is that I can swing a right handed club, if I only use my right arm. The moment I place my left hand on that club, I can no longer do it. I guess that means that even with my regular left swing, my right arm is the dominant one? Anyone else? One theory I heard (and applies to me) is that your "handedness" is determined by your dominant eye. I am right eye dominant so it becomes my forward eye, thus I stand with my right side towards the target. Test for eye dominance: Make a circle with you thumb and index finger (like the okay sign) with both hands. Keep you hands about a foot apart and keeping both eyes open and look through the circles (like a telescope) and pick out an object. Now close one eye, did the object move?? If so your other eye is the dominant one (the one where the object did not move). Just a theory..

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I'm left-handed in everything. When I first took up golf, I started by using my dad's clubs - which were right handed. Never did feel quite right. I was more accurate with my woods right handed, but no touch at all. Went through couple of seasons hitting my driver right handed, my irons left handed - got a lot of strange looks for that. eventually, made the complete switch to lefty.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I'm left handed to write. Right handed with a mouse. But if I use a stylus (wacom tablet) or touch pad on my laptop, I must use my left hand! Right handed golf, hockey, baseball (batting) Left handed to throw a ball I have to use right-handed scissors with my left hand. I use a can opener in my left hand Play guitar left handed. I play piano with both hands! I have a theory that the first time you ever try something a switch is thrown somewhere in your brain and that's it. My son is right-handed and wanted to hit his clubs left when he first tried it. Right-away I convinced him to try hitting right and after a few swings no-problem.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I too am a right handed person who plays golf left handed! The only disadvantage i feel is the lack of equipment available! I do not that because my right hand (top hand) is so strong i sometimes dont grip hard enough with my left hand (bottom). This for me leads to fades nick

Re: Are leftys right-handed? Hi All I believe you can train yourself to use any hand to do something. I am right handed and play left handed. When I started I played with right and left clubs to see and I stuck to left which makes sense to me as my right hand is stronger and gives me more power in the downswing. I trained myself as an experiment to drink with my left hand and now I can use either hand to drink without thinking. I now peel my oranges automatically with my left hand and do loads of other things too that I never used to do with my left hand. Your brain can be rewired. Does it affects the behaviour in the long term? My dad had problem when he was forced to write right handed. You can get loads of left handed equipment from the US. I had problems to find woods and clubs as I am a lady and got some on ebay and delivery to the UK was fast and cheap. Cheers Marie-Luce ![]()

Re: Are leftys right-handed? This is no surprise. Almost all left handed golfers in my experience are right handed and do everything right handed excepted where a double handed grip is used. I have found this with cricket and chopping trees! Also most left arm bowlers in cricket bat right handed, in my experience. Another interesting fact I was told is that all of the best one arm golfers play effectively back hand. So if you only have your right arm you play with left handed clubs and if you only have your left arm you play with right handed clubs. SO it makes sense to reverse. Dave P.S. I haven't checked but I bet Phil Mickelson marks his card right handed.
