Are leftys right-handed? I am a golfing lefty but in all other things I am very much righ handed. My belief is that lefties are in fact the true right handed. Think about it. Which hand do you use most in other activities? Which side of your body is the stronger? When you address a ball left handed is it not the right hand and arm that controls the club? The right arm is extended straight and the club form s an extension of that right arm. The power of the swing is controlled by that right side, making you truly a right handed person, not as you have been called, "a lefty". My left side is useless, I would never use it to defend myself, it may in fact have equal strength but my natural instincts are "go right" yet I would not dream of holding a golf club right handed. Considering that more people are right handed than left in all other things that makes my theory seem incorrect but perhaps many of those people playing so called right handed golf are doing so because, like the emperor's new clothing' they have been led to believe that is the way they should play and not the way that might have been more natural for them.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? Being lefthanded for everyday activities, I've actually heard that for sports, you should do the opposite (so lefties should golf, bat and play hockey right)... and that's what I do. I now have my natural strengths and natural side doing the work.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? This is a very interesting thread. Somebody should study it from the biomechanical movements. Do you need an example of lefty playing right hand... Sergio Garcia! Phil Michelson does the opposite. I think they are enough just for thinking about it. kenisu.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I think you are correct, I am leftie and I play as a right handed.....Except for the putter, I have just bought a leftie one because I found that my stronger eye is the left one. I hope that this will improve my putt performance...

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I agree I have started to play golf left handed and I am right handed for everything else. Just posted something about this on the new members forum. My instructor is tryng to switch me to play right handed but after practising tonight both sides again I still feel that playing left handed is best. It feels more natural, I feel more in control and more strength as my right hand does most of the work. ![]()

Re: Are leftys right-handed? im gonna have to go against the grain here and disagree... i play lefty and also do EVERYTHING else left handed. i think there are some people who play lefty who are really right handed, but there are some definite thorough-bread lefties out there (im one of them). ill tell ya one thing though... it doesnt make golf any easier ![]()

Re: Are leftys right-handed? Like Fionn I am a lefty whose right arm is very much stronger than my left. I play tennis etc with my right arm my left is weak. Could this be the reason why I have a terrible tendency to hit from the top and swing my shoulders to the right far too soon? Any thoughts any one?

Re: Are leftys right-handed? In Canada, we have closer balance of left and right players (40-60split). One of my old foursomes was a group of 4 lefties, although we all were right handed. The foursome used to get its share of odd stares at the tee off box.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? I am also left-handed. I play all sports left-handed except golf and baseball. Off topic but last night I hit my 6 iron 185 yards or more. The ball flight was boring through the sky like a comet. I'm using my Titleist 690MB. I could never have reached this distance with my Callaway X-14. I swear, these blades are so much easier to play than the Callaways. The more I think about it, the Callaways suck. They lack control and tend to hook.

Re: Are leftys right-handed? Lack of control and a tendancy to hook - that sounds like the shafts were simply not stiff enough for your swing speed. The X-14s are one of the best irons that Callaway has ever produced.
