Hitting Irons solid but driver is swaying.

In my never ending struggle to improve my game I have realized that I am a swatter and started to overhaul my swing. I have basically stuck with the lessons on Greg Willis' site and at first things got much worse, but today was a breakthrough day.. I went through great lengths to teach myself to time the swat so that my hands broke down half way though my finish position (address position??).

I have worked on having the legs initiate the swing and letting the arms do what comes naturally while trying to get to the impact position. At first this seemed strange but then I started feeling the sensation of having my hips clear and then my arms/shoulders whipping though the ball. Mind you I can't hit it consistently crisp at 100% but the 80% swing was flying high, straight and at the target. In fact, the distance was pretty much what I was getting out of my swat swing.

Before I knew it, this swing felt very natural and my only swing thought was clear the hips. I really felt that the arms "swung" well behind the hips and the turn would bring me up to a balanced finish position.

That was with the wedges and irons --the driver was a different story. It seemed that I would either push it left (I'm a lefty) or have a minor slice (more than a fade). When I pushed it, it went pretty long. I usually carry my driver 245 with a 9.5 degree wood. I started manipulating the club head at address so that it was slightly closed and then I started hitting it either straight of hooking. I really don't want to have two different swings , any ideas??

Also, I notice that there is exessive wear on the palm of my glove, and in fact I even have a bruise/callus on my palm. What is causing this? Is it a clue to some swing fault?

The wear/bruise is a definite clue that your grip isn't quite right. I'd work on your grip pressure and position. Not only in the setup but throughout the swing. The best source of information I know on the grip is from Ben Hogan's Five Lessons book. Its also the best source of information I know for the rest of the swing! Keep working.

Regarding the bruise... It's not on my palm although I said palm... The wear in on the meaty part below my pinky (If you were to fold your pinky down towards your wrist, it would be in that area).

I usually scuff up a glove after one round and it lasts me perhaps five rounds before a hole appears.

Does anyone get sore fingers after hitting balls at the range? I sometimes feel like the knuckles are being pulled apart.
