Sand wedge problems

Dear Pro,
I have a 56 degree sand wedge in my bag,ever since I got it I have been having problems getting up and down in 2 from 30-40 yards of the green.Previously I used a 9 iron for this shot.The problem is that I am not able to exactly judge the distancedue to the high loft - sometime I go pop in the air and dont reach the green and at other times I tend to overshoot the green.
Should I go back to my 9 iron.
Any tips on this - SHIV
p.s- i am 7 yrs. old
