Somewhat beginner - At a loss for ideas to why my drives all of a sudden have no lift

Hello all ,

Just joined the forum after doing some google searching and coming across the site

Anyways. Last year I really started to play alot. Before that I was always a casual golfer sometimes going to the range maybe out to the links 1 or 2 times a year. Before I actually cared about my swing and mechanics I would be able to drive a consistent 275 yards, but I have been having some serious issues lately.

My shots are coming off the tee as if I am topping the ball. They get a few feet off the ground and tank to the ground. I cant get any lift all of a sudden. Its kind of horrible when I take out my hybrid 4 iron and drive it out about 200 yards but I cant hit my driver further than 150 now. I really dont think I am topping it because I still sometimes take the tee out of the ground or break it. I have tried to higher the tee and still does nothing.

Ive tried repositioning the ball further in my swing / back in my swing. Swinging at 50% velocity 75% , full power. Nothing seems to change it. Its so frustrating because just yesterday I started out at the range with some very nice drives. Then all of sudden after about 5 drives that was it. Couldnt get another one up in the air. Gotta admit was funny as an 18 year old or so girl next to me was cranking them out there doubling my distance She got a kick out of it.

Any help is greatly appreciated !

dan

Hmmmmmmmm........Without seeing the swing it could be alot of things, but it could be that you're hitting up on the ball to much and catching the bottom of the club,or maybe hanging back to much on the right side, are you making sure you're not coming out of you're posture?

First, welcome to the forum. I hope you stay and participate, there are many golfers here who can help and as you progress you may be able to help others with your experiences.

Take a look at this video, it has some great help with using the driver:

I had a similar issue where when I first took the game up I wasdriving consistently straight at around 250 yards and then as I became more serious and started tweaking my swing my iron game improved significantly but my driver and fairway wood went hay wire. Every time I adjusted something in my swing something different would happen - push slice, hook - you name it I probably hit it. The worst thing is that by trying to adjust my swing to get my driver to work I through my iron play out of wack as well.

This went on for a few months before I finally had enough and dragged myself to the local golf shop to see what was happening on the launch monitor. It turns out that my swing speed had increased to over 100mph and the regular flex shaft I had on my woods didn't suit my swing anymore. I purchased a new driver with a stiff shaft with a higher bending point and low and behold I'm back to driving straight again. The best thing is that now I'm back to my natural swing my iron play has fixed itself as well.
