Lightbulb Can I use a 7 or 8 degree driver and get more distance?

Hey Guys, I'm new. i'm 16 years old and i swing my driver around 105 mph. Since i use a Nike Sasquatch 10.5 degree and hit a fade, could i afford to hit a low degree loft to get more roll? I can already driver the ball a max of 315, but want to keep improving.

    hi
changing to a 9.5% could give you a lower flight but would not carry as far and may not give you the amount of extra roll your looking for.
go to a club fitter an have him test you and see your spin rate with both your 10.5% and a 9.5% and see how they compute and he will quickly be able to tell what is best for your swing.

Try gripping the club with a stronger grip (hands rolled to the front a bit) and get that fade out and you should get more forward spin and less sideways action. It will feel a little awkward at first, but it wont take long for you to adjust. That should be a start on the more roll you are looking for...

If you can already hit drives of 315 yards that's pretty impressive - in fact its more than most of the PGA tour professionals. I'd work on the short game to improve your scores/game further.

Thanks a lot..hopefully it helps. my best drives are around there but usually i only hit it 280-290. But I hope your advice helps me lower my scores.

You just cannot drive that distance in average conditions with your swing speed. I don't know how you measured the distance but you should take Bill's advice and get a professional fitting.

Here are the normal results for your swing speed:

Carry Distance for standard 10 degree Driver:235 yards

Total Distance (carry + roll) for standard 10 degree Driver:258 yards

Driver Loft that Yields Maximum Carry: 13.8 degrees

13.8 degree loft Yields Maximum Carry of: 241 yards

Driver Loft that Yields Maximum Total Distance (carry + roll): 12.1 degrees

12.1 degree loft Yields Maximum Total Distance of : 260 yards

I did not bother to reply to this. You are right, of course, Brian. It cannot be done with those numbers.

Tiger's swing speed with the driver is in the mid 120's, and that is at 80%.
His average distance is about 305 yards. Bubba Watson's speed is in the mid 130's and his distance is about 3i5.

I just thought of something. It could be done if the course is lightning hard and fast, or the ball hit a sprinkler head or cart path.

ok..sorry..i havent actually have my swing measured, i just guessed it with my distance. but the distance is correct. i hit my driver around 280-315. 3 wood 260. 5 wood 220. 4-hybrid 195. 5 iron 170. 6 iron 155. 7 iron 145. 8 iron 135. 9 iron 120. I know the distances correctly, just guessed the swing speed. i just have a high ball flight and i think i could get more roll if i used a 9 degree driver??? and i do play on a rock hard course. you can barely get backspin, the greens are not receptive at all. and I've seen tiger drive the ball 370, but W/E

I think a dose of reality is needed here. I play a lot of golf with players of good ability and the distance you claim is exceptional. Do you really claim to hit farther than most professional tour players, I doubt that.

While the typical amateur is still struggling with the 200-yard standard (even if he thinks and says he hits it 250), the PGA Tour driving-distance average has jumped from 260.4 in 1993 to 279.8 in 2002 to 287.8 this year.

You may get the odd long drive when all conditions come together in the exceptional situation, If you want advice on your driver you need to be a little more realistic with your performance.
    Best Regards
    Brian

I hate to be all Nitpicky, but if you're hitting your drives 280-315, three wood 260, how in the world are you hitting a 9 iron 120 ? because im right in that distance range with my long clubs, and i hit a PW 140... and just to give you an idea, my swing speed is around 125, and ball speed around 185.

Krutches, what sticks are you playing? It may explain some of your distances.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

I have alwyas been bad with my irons...my vice..i seem to hit them and they skyrocket. instead of going far they go high..so i just hit lower clubs

I agree. You say hit 315 yard drives, but only hit 120 yard nine irons? I max out at 285 drives but hit 145-150 yard nine irons. If i were you i would use the money that you were going to buy the new driver with toward a better set of irons.
