My irons are fine, i hit them straight and reasonobly consistent but apart from my short game my woods and in particular my driver is giving me problems and causing me to play very poorly!the other day i shot 27 over, hit 1 fairway, 42 putts, 5 GIR (10 out of the other 13 were missed narrowly or because my tee shot was in the trees. I used to slice all the time and still do but now there is the occasional hook or even a straight shot. I was wondering what differnces there is in the swing used for woods and the swing for irons I.E set up, take away, backswing, throughswing etc... thanks

Re: Swing differnces in woods This is from another post I gave: In general, the driver swing is a littel different then the iron swing in a few points: - Ball position is forward (just inside the leading heal) - Hands are slightly foward to compensate for the forward ball position - The takaway is as low and as long as you can allow you shoulder turn to make it. This creates a wider arc in the rotational aspect of the swing. - Your hands do not need to be as aggressive through impact as you may think. They still need to release to get the club square, but all you power will come from your leg, hip and shoulder rotation through the ball. - There should be a slight upward attack on the ball at impact. This imparts less spin on the ball which makes it fly more in a straight line rather then a rising arc. This angle of attack of the clubface on the ball is created by the fact that the ball is forward in your stance. So, you don't really have to do anything extra, just understand what is happening here and do not try to hit down on the ball as you would an iron. The feelings you get at the point of impact will be "low to high"...low to ground and finishing high in the air with the hands.

Re: Swing differnces in woods Good to hear its getting better. As for the driver being more closed on the takaway...no. There shouldn't be any difference in any club on the takaway as long as you are taking it back with the shoulders and not the hands or arms.
