problems with driving Hi! It can be quite frustrating for any golfer who has been trying to improve his but all efforts seem to go in vain. I have been playing golf for last 06 months. I have tried to improve my distance with driver and with my woods but nothing seems to work and to add to my woes is frequent slices. My driving distance is just about 180 yards. My swing as described by my collegues as leisurely and the fact is that this swing I feel comfortable with. When I try to swing fast and hard I run into all sorts of problems. I am unable to improve. Are there any suggestions and advice? ![]()

Re: problems with driving Swing easy, swing hard, swing any way you like, with any tempo you like. If your swing path is out to in with an open clubface, you'll slice the ball. At the range, try keeping your trailing elbow as close to your hip as you can at all times. This helps to keep your hands and arms in the slot.

Re: problems with driving Playing for six months and developing a worse slice. Sounds like it's time to see an instructor. A slice is caused by having your clubface open to your swing path. Check out my drills for clubface alignment, correct position at the top and starting the downswing: http://members.shaw.ca/gord962/drills.htm Last edited by gord962; 04-15-2005 at 03:49 PM.

Re: problems with driving Yup, slicing significantly reducing driving distance. If the ball is going sideways at the end of its flight then that's all the forward distance gone. Get the slice fixed and the distance will come. Don't worry about your swing speed at the moment but try to develop a consistent and natural tempo. Slicing is a problem for all new golfers and it takes time and effort to overcome. With some tuition and practice however there's no reason why you should continue to slice. I remember when I stopped slicing the ball, it just happened all of a sudden and has never come back. It's a great feeling when that happens believe me Best of luck Paul

Thanks for all the tips and help. I have made some changes in my grip and my shots a flying a lot straighter. But I still have to get a good distance,180 yards is not good enough. I do I imrove my distance with my 'leisurely swing'.
