Dead Push

hello, im new to the boards here and am here to seek advice. I've been playing for roughly a year now. I visit the range 3-4 times a week and play a round 2 times a month. I recently just got back from vacation and played a round of golf and 2 visits to the range and noticed my drives have changed. Im using a Taylormade R7 9.5 driver with a Aldila NV-65s shaft. I always tee my driver with teh golf ball on the inside of my left foot with a 2 3/4" tee sitting half a ball above the clubface. I usually carry 240-250 yds with the driver with a typical total distance of 275-280. Swing speed is about 98mph. I am roughly a 6 handicap. The problem i am having now is that when im not splitting the freeways (i usually play a draw) then i am pushin the ball dead right (with no slice). What are some of the things i should address so i can correct this problem? Thanks in advance and happy holidays

Re: Dead Push

Hi Mike,

This is typical of a player who attacks the ball a little to much from the inside on the way down. Have a look at you swing plane on a video if possible.

What happens is that comming from the inside you hit a good draw when you play well, however a little off key and you get stuck behind your body with the clubhead hence the straight push with no slice.

Work on the pumping drill.........from the top drop the club several times then hit.

If you need more explaination please reply.

Hope this helps

Ian

Re: Dead Push

A push and a draw are the same swing, but different club face alignment. Both have an inside-square-inside swing path. So, don't look at your swing, okay!!!!

The difference is a draw has a closed club face and a push has the club face square to the swing path.

So, work on releasing the club and 'turning over' through impact to get the club face closed ratehr than square to the swing path. being a 6-handicapper you're skilledenough to do this with a fair amount of ease.

If you need some ideas or more help, post and I'll give you some swing thoughts.

Re: Dead Push

Hi,
Just reading your dilemna on pushing dead right. I am a 9h'cap and had same problem. A little experimentation and I found that in taking the club away I was taking it just a bit to much inside. Altered swing path to somewhat more straight back from ball until clubhead was outside of right foot and then just let it happen from there. This straightened out all of my shots and stopped me swinging down to extreme from the inside. Hope this helps.
