Re: Best Driver?

I'm partial to SMT's offerings, but apparently the Ashton E3 will be top notch.

Re: Best Driver?

I second Ben - the E3 sounds like it will be in a league of it's own. Components are the way to go. Order the head and get a professional club maker to fit a shaft to your swing maximize your potential. No off the shelf OEM will stand a chance in distance or accuracy if the club maker is even 1/2 decent.

Re: Best Driver?

Cobra baby. I swing Cobra drivers. I love the 427 SS and also play the 440 SZ. They just shoot the ball down the fairway. Have considered getting a Mactec NVG though. I here they launch it out there.

Re: Best Driver?

Tried lots, driving was the worst part of my game, went for nearly 2 years without a driver because I was so inconsistent.

Last year decided I had to be able to drive the ball - I tested loads of drivers at the range and 2 were noticably much better than the others (Callaway, Ping, Titleist) - Cobra 460SZ and Cobra 440SZ.

To cut a long story short, I bought the 460SZ because of its huge forgiveness and ease of use, and I haven't looked back since. If you put a half decent swing on this, the ball will fly 250 - 280 easy. I have even managed to hit **** range balls up to the 250 board!

Sure, I still hit the odd slice or push but - 90% of the time now I am in play (and usually by a long way too!)

Try one, everyone who has had a go of mine has hit it really well. Good luck with your search.

Re: Best Driver?

John, not to discount the head, but these types of results are mainly based on the shaft. Honestly, you can get consistant results with any head if you get the shaft that matches your swing.

Not sure which head to get? Test as many as you can out. Things you should be looking for in a good head are the look and sound. If you stand over the club head at address and the clubhead does not make you feel confident, the head is not for you. If you hit a few balls and can't stand the sound the club head makes, theat club head is not for you. If you love the look and sound but it doesn't feel right, ask to try the same club with a different shaft. They should have more than one available is they are even half decent. Once you have narrowed your selection down to 2 or 3 heads, do some research. Check for reviews on the web, research the companies as far as customer service and warranty is concerned. Once you have made up your mind on the club you want, go back and test it again to ensure this this club is really the one you want to invest in.

Re: Best Driver?

The best driver is the one that you use to hit the ball 300 yards down the middle of the fairway time after time. Try lots of them until you find the one that works for you and then buy that one. There are a lot of golfers out there who'll spend a fortune on the latest driver to display in their bag but if it isn't suited to them it's just bling.
