driver trajectory

My driver ball flight is straight, and boring while most of the other players seem to be spinning where the ball starts out low to high then drops. Does anyone know why they put so much spin on the ball while I seem to have very little.

Re: driver trajectory

Your trajectory is prefered. Why would you want more spin on a tee shot? It is all due to the angle of approach to the ball. They are steep, and you are shallow into the ball.

Hello Greg,
Yesterdayt I played a round with a scratch player. His iron shots were making deep divot and ball almost dying on the green because of the spin. I tried to copy the style in which I failed miserably. Can you please explain, how to hit top of the ball and fly it true to get that "swooshh" iron shot.

Re: driver trajectory

Thanks Greg, I like my ball flight as its usually low to high and straight. Its just that when I see others hit more down on the ball and see their ball go low to high to higher then drop dead, I wonder if I should be trying that.
I tend to come from inside with a shallow upward angle of attack with driver and when the ball lands it bounces and rolls like crazy. The other folks seem to have their ball on a string.

Re: driver trajectory

My understanding is that the perfect launch angle is somewhere around 11 degrees. With ball spin between 2500 and 3000 rpm.

They're rpms are probably much higher which causes the balloon effect that you described. Which really hurts their distance. If they hitting in to a breeze the effect on their distance will be much greater than your own.

Re: driver trajectory

I am guessing that when your drives hit the ground they are running while the people with the ballooning shots roll almost none at all.

For distance your low trajectory is great. They might have more accuracy as a result of the increased backspin they have on the ball, but this will kill distance big time.
