Re: 1 iron hi i use a 1 iron all the time, i hit it about 220yards and i have no bother hitting a low shot down the middle, i use an old ping eye 1 iron, and its great when reall windy, i think a lot of the problems are that your told you cant hit a one iron, go to range and swing at 50% and hit about 15 balls and see how far you hit, then hit another 15 at full power, this will send them right and left but will give you an idea of how far you hit it full power, then start hitting about 50 balls at no more than 90% and try and find a happy distance you hit it, might be 200 yds or 250 yds, when you find the distance then start hitting to the targe at that range, the main thing with a 1 iron is to let the club do the work and you only have to swing smooth. think of it like a 7 iron with a longer shaft. i think my 1 iron is one of the clubs i know i will always put on the fairway and as long as i dont try and kill it it works good for me. i do play links golf most and its windy and fairways are hard so i get lots of run with a 1 iron too, have tried a 3 wood but i'm better with a 1 iron. i am not a youngster i'm 53 and bit over weight too, but if i was you i try it and stick with it, when the wind blows strong its the best club in the bag. hope this helps. bill Last edited by bill reed; 08-31-2006 at 09:36 AM.

It's now: ONLY God can hit a 1 iron. Depending on the loft, you may or may not have the swingspeed to use a 1 iron. I've got a 1 iron hybrid. It sits in the garage. I'd have to pull a wedge to make room for it in my bag (or drop my driver). |

Re: 1 iron Bill reed, Sandy lyle probably had a swing speed of around 110mph or something! PGAPLAYER#1 probably has a swing speed of around 80-90. You do not need a 1 iron! If you have a 1 iron you just have it just to show off in front of mates anyway lol!

Re: 1 iron hi i use a 1 iron because it works and i know i hit it 220 yrs, i dont think its harder to hit and is great of the tee when its blowing a gale as it does here a lot. i think to many people try and hit to hard. with a 1 iron that dont work. if you have one in your garage, the take it out and try it, its i really good club and i dont carry any woods but a driver. my swing speed in the 90s. if i used a 3 wood i would not get as low a shot. i suprised so many of you wont help him in trying to use what is a useful club. bill Last edited by bill reed; 08-31-2006 at 05:27 PM.

Re: 1 iron Nick Faldo won the British ursing a 1 iron off the tee alot and recently Tiger a 2 iron. The basic problems with the long irons, is that it is hard to maintain the cupping of the right hand throughout the swing. But if you have the time to work on this, they do have a nice feeling when you hit them well. That said, a 16 degree hybrid is a lot easier to hit and more forgiving.

Re: 1 iron You only see tour pros useing 1 and 2 irons when playing in british open or maybe us open when they play american style links courses. But you will never see them useing them on normal american style courses especially in florida and stuff were they are all resort courses (because american golf is easy) hehe only joking!
