| Re: Tour Proven Keys to Distance austin got longer as he got older. when he was in his late seventies, he still hit one irons 280. On his dvds you can see the older he got the more square he got with his hips and shoulders at impact. The more he learned the more refined his swing became. I can appreciate that the picture you have shows his hips open, they are no where near tiger open though. picuteres from 20 years later then that would be within 5* of square. I can appreciate your rebuttal, I will say I am comfortable in what I beleive I now know about kinetic energy, and not minipulating the laws of the pendulum where I stand by the statement I made.

| Re: Tour Proven Keys to Distance I looked up some stuff on Mike, and I think his 515yd drive was just a freak happening. He is a long hitter tho from what ive hear, with a 155mph swing speed and all. I think hes just one of thoes guys that is innately long. But of course if something is working for you, dont change it. |

| Re: Tour Proven Keys to Distance try studying what he teaches by watching his videos. He is so long because he has strength, is tall, is fast, and utilizes the laws of physics. One of his pupils, mike dunnaway, is very long as well and his hips and sholders are prettty square at impact as well. But he is not so tall, or as strong. It is that the technique utilizes the laws of physics. Mike Austin was long before he studied the sciences of what made him long. after studying he refined and it made him even longer. One of the biggest advantages of his method is it puts very little straind on the body. SInce I started learning his method I have stopped wearing my knee brace because I dont need it. I have a torn meniscus and the ohter swing I was using was not good on the knee, but this one does not bother it.

| Re: Tour Proven Keys to Distance cmays: That sounds alot like "hitting it with your body" like what Stewart Appleby and Rocco Mediate do so well. its def. a solid way to gain power and consistantcy. Thats something I'm actually working on now, it helps me release the club better and maintain my spine angle. and as far as square hips at impact go. Its a very poor impact position and no sensible teacher would teach that. There is not a single tour player that doesnt clear their hips. These guys are the best in the world, and their swings may not all look the same but their impact position are all almost exactly the same. And that is maintained spine angle, hands ahead of the clubhead, and fully cleared hips. Not clearing your hips is going to lead to breaking down of your wrists at impact (scooping the ball) and poor weight transfer. It generates no power because its all upper body and utilized zero of the rest of your body.

| In your profile, you claim you are a pro but don't have a handicap; is that a joke or do you merely have aspirations. Quote:

| Re: Tour Proven Keys to Distance just to add...bubba got the tip from Woods....I believe Woods is longer of the tee than Bubba or JB but ALL shorter than Daly or Hank Kuehne A specific move in Woods' golf swing wasn't doing him any good, either. Just past impact with longer clubs, Woods regularly snapped his left knee into hyperextension. Woods considered the move a key source of distance, and as a small-boned person of 6-feet-2--who still has a 29½-inch waist and weighs 178 pounds--it was an important one as he competed against bigger men like Singh, Els and Mickelson. In his book How I Play Golf (click here to read book excerpt), Woods writes that he would exaggerate the move "when I need an extra 20 yards." ![]() In his 2001 book, How I Play Golf, Woods described "snapping my left leg straight" when he needed extra yards. But after surgery, he sought to alleviate stress on the left knee. Photo: Christian Iooss
