Re: Modern Day drivers 460cc's of power

Absolutely agree... All shafts are different. I went to a lab to find out what sort of shaft to use. They told me an X because "I loaded the shaft severely at the start of the downswing" - whatever that means.

I like the NVS 85 gram X because it still gives me the high ball flight I like and I can hit the ball straight. With that NV Stiff shaft, the ball goes all over the place ...

I have an NV 85 gram X shaft in my 3 wood and I really like it.

Since I learned to use my lower body to initiate the downswing, I find I like the heavier shaft and control the X gives me.

Re: Modern Day drivers 460cc's of power

I use alot of low lofted drivers, 6.5* for my windy day club and 8* for my regular club. I usually use a Aggresive nRage LD X flex. Will take anything you can dish out but it is silky smooth. I helped with the concept of winding a shaft from both ends with 2 winders vice one.

I am going to put a Fuji Speeder 757 X and try it tommorrow. Got one on the cheap from ebay, I spined and pured it, it was the most perfect shaft I've ever worked with. The laser poped straight as a arrow. Looking forward to testing it out.

Sounds like your swing and mine are very similar. I laced one tonight 327 dead down the middle of a 475 yard par 4. What a feeling!

Both the nRAGE and the Frenzy continue to amaze me with how good they feel, even in the very stout flexes.

I've got an LD XX in an Integra Quadratic (feels niiiiiiiice), and I've got a XXXX Frenzy 7 that I had in an Encore. Smooth and tight!

Re: Modern Day drivers 460cc's of power

I used to golf this club, I still have it in the shop for friends to use.

First off---I think that this a very good club.

As you can tell, I no longer use it because I have found a club for my swing that beats it hands down.

FT-5 tour driver by Callaway. I was fitted on a launch monitor.

I took my trusty old Taylormade 580XD and warmed up with it. Hit a few "good" shots on the launch monitor and then started hitting all the new toys.

One item that I found out straight away was something that I had always suspected, my shots were going too high. The launch monitor showed that my ball spin was 4500RPM with high launch angle. I was losing distance.

I found the FT-5 tour shafted model to lower my ball spin to about 3000 and my launch angle to about 12.5 degrees... I picked up some serious free yardage. I have been playing the club for about a year now and the only complaint that I have about it is that it looks like it will fade from sun damage...

This club doesn't come cheap, I beleive that I could have gotten a very good PING driver that would have given me simular results for less money but the launch conditions had me hitting some pretty low lofted faces which I felt would have added to my inaccuracy problems.

My 10 cents....

Re: Modern Day drivers 460cc's of power

I wish they would make some 390-420cc heads.

I hit some old persimmons for practice clubs. About 230-250cc heads. Not much bigger than a ball for a 4wood. Really gets you tuned into the sweet spot.

Distance wise with a steel shaft, not much. The ball makes much more difference than the club. I would say a well fitted shaft second and the head loft and face angle third.

Re: Modern Day drivers 460cc's of power

What a difference a shaft makes? I put a Fuji Speeder on a 8* Ashton X-1 460cc, a little whippy in the middle of the shaft. Laid everything out to the right. Hit my nRage in a 6.5* Ashton X-1 one after another nRage was better.

What's in a name? Best shaft I have hit lately is a Tour Swing Vengence. Tim Chopp out of Wisconsin. The LD shaft is great for x flex hitters.

I wanted to try a high end shaft and see what the fuss is all about. Looks like a ebay resell.
