I did think that myself initially as well Bill... but then you remember who is hitting the ball

You don;t very often see this shot... it would be interesting to know if he consistently hits it this high up the driver face. We may all be surprised how high up the face that we actually hit the ball.

The sweet spot on the drivers now days is a lot larger and he is still getting the full force behind the ball. The difference in teeing the ball lower would probably just affect the trajectory (lower) of the shot and perhaps help him keep it straight or even hit a slight fade...

it could be why his driving is so poor and in the rough more than the fairway. but yes he does hit it along way.

I've always aimed to have my shoulders at 90 degrees at the top of my backswing so that I wouldn't overdo it. I guess there's nothing wrong with turning more if you can handle it (gets a bit tricky if you turn to much).

I would seem to be quite flexible as I can turn my shoulders to 90 degrees with a hip rotation of about 5-10 degrees and If I really try to turn as much as I can with full hip rotation I can get to about 130-140 degrees with the shoulders.

It's hard to get a good feel of tension in the body with that kind of flexibility. I have to resist the rotation and can't really get relaxed through the swing. If I don't turn the hips, I get no speed to the club and I end up hitting with my hands.

How do you feel at the top of your backswings? Could you rotate your shoulders even furher, or are you feeling a good natural tension at about 90 degrees?

(Sorry, could have made a new thread about this, but since Tiger rotates over 90 also and it's mentioned as a good thing, I tought I'd just ask it here)

OK it's Tiger but he is human, or I think he is.

That contact is too high up the face and will hit a shot that flies too high and will lack distance. The sweet spot cannot help a ball that wraps around the trailing edge of the club. I would surmise that this was a poor tiger shot and not a basis to measure his norm.

Perhaps they should manufacture some illegal long distance drivers for amateurs with higher COR--- say .99 and above? Just for driving range fun, naturally....

i just looked at a clip of tiger back at the buick open in 31/07/05 and he did the same thing and hit the ball with the top half off the club, the middle of the ball is about 3/4 up the face of the driver and the top of the balls just above the top of the club, so i take it its not a one-off but where he hits the ball most off the time.
