irons

can someone help, i despretly need to know the difference between the drivers and irons i have and when to use the. i bought a golf set that includes a 1driver, 3 fairway and 4/5. my irons set is a 3, 6,7,8,9 and a "p". my first game was yesterday i played a nine hole par 3 course, and scored a double and triple bogey on each hole. I was really confused on when to use a certain club. Can you give me a little clearification.

Re: irons

hi
you 3 iron had less loft on the face so hit the ball lower but it also had a longer shaft and that helps you hit longer. with the 9 and p the have more loft so hit the ball on a higher trajectory's and with hitting the ball higher the don't hit the ball as far and the have a shorter shaft.
most clubs will give you a difference of 10 years between club. so id you hit the p (pitching wedge) 90 yard then the 9 iron you hit about 100 yards and all the way up to the 3 iron and you'll hit that about 170.
again each player hit different distance the woods work the same with the driver having the lest loft and the longest shaft.
what to do it take the 9 iron out and see how far you hit it and then once you can hit it the same sort of distance 8 out of 10 times then see how far you hit a 8 iron.
going to the range and hitting 10 balls with each club will give you an idea of how far you hitting.
i agree with Brian that a couple of lessons will help you a lot.
cheers
bill

Re: irons

Hey, I'm a total noob too. You need to get to a range and swing the clubs in your bag to see what each will do for you. If you haven't yet...I would strongly advise some lessons. You wouldn't believe how much frustration that cures. Also, on a question like yours google is your friend
