Left arm bent at top of my swing

Hi

I was watching the ladies golf on TV last weekend and noticed that players kept their left arm (right handed golfers) almost completely straight when they reach the top of their swing.

When I swing I find my left arm will always bend slightly at the elbow. I am quite happy with the way my swing works for me but was wondering if I should be trying to work on keeping my leading arm straight and if so what benefits should I see if I do so?

Thanks
Lisa

Re: Left arm bent at top of my swing

Some people cannot do this in their swing from what I understand.

If it's not broken; don't fix it.

Re: Left arm bent at top of my swing

You don't want your left arm 'locked' straight, but comfortably straight. Most people try to take the club back too far with their arms instead of rotating fully with their shoulders. If you pause at the top of the swing, you should feel a 'pull' which is created by the resistance you are creating with your rotation of your trunk. This is where the power in your swing is generated. Bringing the arms farther back which requires a bend in the left arm does not increase the power you are trying to create. Try my drill to get the correct feeling at the top of the backswing: http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/v...rticle.php?a=4
