handicap problem

hi all
just wanted to ask about my handicap it is currently 30.i joined a club in oct last year thats when i got this handicap, then winter came and ive be playing on the winter greens every day weather permitting and a couple of days ago the flags were on the summer greens on our small 9 hole course par 31,i shot 74 for two rounds and that is playing to about a 14 handicap.im in my first comp this weekend all be it a texas scrambler with a 8.9 handicaper but if i play this well i think i will be embarresed to go up for my prize if we win.should i ask to get my handicap lower.i played with this guy last week on winter greens and he was a 21 handicaper,he asked what mine was and couldnt believe it when i started to play cos i just trashed him what should i do

Re: handicap problem

Just go in with the handicap you have been given. As you continue your good play the handicap will fall and everything else will be fine. They wouldn't let you raise your handicap if you were playing poorly!

Re: handicap problem

I concur. Play on. If you continue to play well, your HCP will tumble as a result.

Might as well take advantage of your work over the winter!

Re: handicap problem

Sparko,

If you have worked hard on your game over winter, use it in your winners speech.
