| Re: driving Since you are new to golf you will probably find what works today might not work tomorrow. Somehow you have made adjustments whereby you are squaring up the face of the club at impact. You are also hitting the ball at a different angle whereby you are not hitting the ball on the upswing giving you more range on the drive. Thing is when you learn some of the basic swing mechanics the angle of attack will change and you may find that this ball position no longer works. You are like most people at the beginning of learning golf. We just swing at the ball and rely mostly on athletic ability to make subtle changes during the swing to make contact and guide the ball toward the target. This will work to a certain point but to gain consistency and improve your game take some lessons. You will then understand why the ball should be in the front of the stance with a driver. Good luck. |

| Re: driving Ah! This link should explain it. I got it from another thread on the front page called "Head Behind The Ball". So go there if this doesn't work. http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/v...ead.php?t=1485 (The Golf Ball Position - where to position the golf ball) What you are describing is a variation of Method 1 but I don't understand why the instructor on television would tell you to keep it in the middle of the stance. However, not everyone has the same swing or instructs in the same way. Last edited by jambalaya : 04-12-2005 at 09:38 PM. |

| Re: driving The short answer, sparko, is that there are two theories re: ball placement. Theory one is to play the ball in a constant spot, and move your feet (adjust your stance) wider and narrower for longer and shorter clubs, respectively. Theory two is to keep your stance the same, and move the ball, with Driver being played inside your lead heel, and wedges being played between your heels. I prefer method two, and always 'cheat' the ball closer to middle. I, too, sliced my driver, but was playing the ball off my lead TOE, not heel. The slicing stopped once I brought the ball to inside my heel.

| Re: driving If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There's probably a decent-sized swing flaw if you're getting good contact with your DRIVER with the ball between your heels (not toes). But if it's working, use it in competitions. |
