Red face Rookie Golf Trouble...Please Help

Hey all.

I have been playing golf (self taught) once a week for about two years but I don't feel any better than when I started. I would say that my two biggest problems are that my confidence is low when I play, and that I seem to be inconsistant when it comes to hitting the ball. If I hit the ball 5 times with any club, This would more than likely be the results:
I would top it twice, resulting in a "wormburner"
Chunk the ground behind the ball once
Hit the ball with the outside tip of the clubface twice
Then one shot would be pretty decent.

I have to say that It feels almost like baseball sometimes because I can't consistantly hit the ball right at the sweet spot every time. I don't know if I am not keeping my eye on the ball or what. I don't care how far it goes, I just want to hit it solid every time.

Thanks in advance all

Hi Jiggy,

The first and most obvious thing to do is seek out your local pro and book a series of lessons, this will help with the basics like set up and alignment.

If you have been playing for a couple of years you will no doubt have to change a few thing so be prepared for it to get a little worse before it gets "MUCH" better.

Good Luck.

Ian.

Just to help you out. With your five balls you hit, you somehow come out with six hits.

LOL - I missed that.

I'll back Ian here - get some lessons. I know it's much cheaper to be self taught, but the game is more enjoyable when you can trust your fundamentals, and when you can start to figure out for yourself why you're doing things (like topping or chunking - usually caused by swaying), it's nice to be able to take them to a knowledgable somebody for analysis.

Re: Rookie Golf Trouble...Please Help

Just read your post and figured I'd tell you the site I came across by accident.
It's called Swing for Life. It Changed my game and mindset totally. I've been a hacker since 1999. I found this site 40 days ago and I am now breaking the 90's.
This was the only site that ever helped me. I was determined to learn this game without lessons. The Guy on this site fully explains the swing in simple easy lessons. Its free, and I'm in no way affilliated with it. I just figured I'd pass it along. Good luck!
