Question Is it OK to use woods on the fairway?

My instructor only mentioned using a wood to tee off. She taught me to use irons first and then a 5W.

Now that I've been out with other women on the course a bit, I've noticed that they use woods for the first few shots and only then move to an iron when they are near the green.

I was only using the wood to tee off and using a 6 or 7 after that.

I tried using a wood for my second shot today and it certainly went much further.

Is this OK?

it definitely is okay, as long as you are not teeing the ball up on the fairway.

Re: Is it OK to use woods on the fairway?

Most women I have played with carry as many woods 3, 5, 7, 9, as possible. In fact I think they are easier to hit for my wife because it reduces fat-shots. Just hit them straight and good luck!

Might try the Adams IDEA progressive irons.. they are ALL WOODS!!! kinda.
gary

Re: Is it OK to use woods on the fairway?

Oh sorry... Hitting it "FAT" is when you hit the ground before the ball....
hitting it "thin" is when you hit just the Equator of the ball with the lead edge of your iron... or "skulling it"

so thin aka: skulled shot..
and fat aka: CHUNK.

Just golf Jargin.

Sheltie,

Good to see another Gal contributing. You can use what ever club you like on the deck.

Another point is you can use any club you like on the green too.

Cheers
