Mid range and putting

Hi,
I usually have most trouble with my 2nd shots from 150yds to 30yds, also my putting needs to improve. I have a putting lesson booked for next week, but any tips would be appreicated.

Most important in putting:

No Hands at all. The only thing that causes the club to move are your shoulders rotating about your spine.

Think about hitting on the up-stroke of the putt. This puts topspin on the roll immediatly and reduces "skid". A ball struck in the middle of the face square on can create a little skid in the first few inches. This can easily cause the ball to start off-line. The shorter the putt the more this is apparent. So, move the ball slightly forward in your stance and let your leading shoulder tilt "up" on the ball as you make the stroke.

Another tip is to never look at anything other then the ball as you make the stroke. Even after the hit, keep looking at the spot where the ball was and just listen to it drop. What this does is keeps your eyes still. If your eyes are still, you have a better chance of hitting the correct spot, AND keeps your head still. A still head allows the shoulders rotation to remain constant. Any deviation in the shoulders pivot will cause the arms then the hands and eventually the club it's self to move off-line.

There are so many drills in putting that sometimes you can get bored easily, so find a friend to practice with, and play putting games. Makes the time go by and if you like to bet, this puts the pressures of real-situations in play as well.

My own personal one:

My sternum stays directly over the ball at all times. Hands stay still and don't hinge. I only focus on the ball and stay looking at the spot where the ball was.

With regards to pitching and chipping. Practise baby. Its all about feel. I'm struggling with this part too, and if I crack it, I could be posting some low scores.
