newbie saying hi, and a question

HI, just started playing golf a week ago, got a 140 on and 18 hole course my first time, i know thats a low score but never played before and loved it.
been to trafford driving range today and my swing improved loads over 100 balls, by the end i was knocking a fair amount fairly straight and quite far with a 3 wood.

question is, when i tried it with a one wood i could not get any lift on the ball at all, it just flew along the ground, even when i hit it quite hard, what could be causing that, and why so different between a 1 and 3 wood

cheers

Hi There,

This may not be what you want to hear, I suggest you find the pro at the range and book a series of lessons, he will no doubt tell you to work with the pitching wedge upto about a 6 iron and no more for the first few weeks.

It's all about loft, to get the ball in the air you have to down on the top of the ball not underneath it, which is probably where you were going wrong.

It will be the best few quid you have ever spent having a few lessons to get you started on the right path.

Hope this helps.

Ian.

I agree with Ian, lessons when you start are priceless, learning to have the correct posture, grip and swing before you pick up bad habits will serve you well. I red that Tiger Woods had 91 hours of lessons last year!! if he needs 91 hours how many do we need?

hi xdeity
do you mean the playgolf range at trafford
if so enquire at the desk about beginners group golf lessons
a colleague has been on one and said it was a great help to him!
this was last year but it was £37.00 for 6 lessons but he got an instruction book worth £8 and £25.00 worth of ball credit.
sounds like a good deal to me!
good luck
