| Re: Chip / Pitch from Thick Greenside rough From the medium rough at around 100 yards I would play a 3/4 pitch with my pitching wedge, slightly firmer grip to stop the club twisting and hit down with a slightly steeper plane. If the weather conditions (wind/damp air) were a factor I may club up to a 9 iron.
Deep rough, forget the green, take a more of punch shot with your wedge and aim to hit the fairway so that you leave a clean shot to the green next.
I would only contemplate a sand wedge with an open face from the medium rough from 40 yards or less in, where I had to lob over a hazard, otherwise I would be making a controlled chip at this distance.
