my first round

Hi All !

I did it !
it was my first 18 hole (i began early in August). I really enjoy playing Golf. i took about 4h30 to do it (4100 Yd, walking). It was windy. taking some advices from all of you, i scrored 62 and 55 for a total of 117 (normal 68) without trying to shoot a ball 200yd away knowing that i have no constitency and repetability to do that. I just tried to get my directions and distances right using my favorite clubs to stay on the fairway.

I still have some troubles using my driver.... i think i have no troubles for chipping, but i spent almost 3 or 4 shoots on the green each time... so i need to work my put... if i can mark in 2 shoots, 100 is possible for me (normal 68).

well, thanks again for all the advices i can read here.

Yann

Re: my first round

Well done, Yann! Good to hear

Now you've got started, there's no turning back. You're one of us now, not one of them

As you correctly identify, for the time being, you want to leave the driver in the bag. It's one of the hardest clubs to hit consistently, and often the reward isn't worth the risk.

You also note that your short game needs work, and this is the area to spend the vast majority of your practice time on. Master the short game and your scores will tumble.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Re: my first round

Don't stress about not using your driver.
I've used my 3 Wood for years, and still hit it just as far as most Drivers.
Well done, and keep us all informed on your progress.

Cheers

Darran

Re: my first round

congrats... 117 is a good score to start off with. few more games and you'll bring that down under 110, then your goal will be 100.

find an iron that your most comfortable using.. for me it was the 7i which i hit about 130m when i first started playing and learning golf, over time and with practice this should increase to about 150m. but don't stress on your distances just yet, just try and hit the ball straight.

a lot of guys on here recommend not using your driver, but for me i always used it on the course. like all things the only way to get good at something is practice, and if you don't practice with it then you won't get good at it. Apart from the Lob wedge it's prob the 2nd hardest clubs in the bag to hit. and i find that when i hit my driver well the rest of my game follows.

keep up the good work.

Re: my first round

Thanks all,

my favorite club is the i4, yes, the i4 !... and i am constant with i9 and pw

effectively, i was driving with the w3, which is enough for me.
I was able to go out of bunkers easily using my i9 or PW (I don't own a sw).
I was quite surprised to easily choose the right club is most circumstances.

yesterday, i did practice my driver.

WOW, what a sport. Here in Québec, the vegetation is turning red, light green and yellow... it is incredible... i am praying for the sun to join us on next saturday...

Re: my first round

Hi All,
I did it again and now i score 116. The first 9 was quite good, i score 51, but the 9 others was very poor : 65.
It was quite windy again, but i spent 9 on a par 4 (one penality, one bunker) at hole 12 and did 11 on a par 5 for the last hole (mulligan, second drive out of the fairway, one penality after that, and 2 strokes to get out of a bunker) : i was disapointed but i was playing with new shoes and walking was quite a pain at the end of the round. I was also using my new sandwegde. This was difficult because I was using it for the first time and did not have time to practice it before the game (I was using my PW before).

well, see you after my next round. (certainely a 9 holes, because winter is clode to us. )

Yann

Re: my first round

I was about to go berserk - All I saw was a 'my first round' post by a Canadian while I've got 3 feet of snow on my lawn.

I'm glad I read before I post! Granted, this weekend is supposed to bring plus-side temps and rain...
