| Staked Tree Relief The course I play on has lots of staked trees. My friends and I cannot agree when we can get relief. My question is: "My ball lands close to a staked tree. The tree interferes with my swing when I aim at the hole. But I could come out sideways (eg on to the fairway) without any swing interference. Can I take relief from the staked tree or must I play out sideways?" Thanks |

| Re: Staked Tree Relief I'll take a stab at this. The Rules of Golf do not provide for relief from staked or otherwise trees. However, most local courses provide for relief from staked trees, in order to protect the young trees. In that case, I would believe the relief should be taken in a manner consistent with other rules, i.e. no closer to the hole. I also believe that the intent is to give full relief to be able to fairly swing the club. Ted P.S. Edit While I posted this, I see bdbl answered. Anyways, I did a search, which confirms our answers, in case your friend requires further substantiation. http://www.google.com/search?client=s...8&oe=UTF-8 Last edited by rotator; 06-26-2009 at 12:40 PM.. |
