Woody Austin did look fetching today in his (lucky) wife's beach bolero. |
It was nice to see Greg Norman playing as well as he did and in spite of his final round he did show us all he still has it. His attitude was great and if he had managed to pull it off it certainly would have been one for the ages.
Prior to Harrington and Norman teeing off I had a tough time looking past Harrington as the eventual winner of the Claret Jug, he is very tough mentally and certainly the experience when it comes to wind swept links courses.
There has been many great shots played to clinch victories in majors over the years, Tigers chip shot on the 16th. at Augusta is way up there of course. Harrington's five wood approach on the 17th. was one of the most outstanding shots I have ever witnessed and his second to the final hole was brilliant to say the least, well done Paddy a well deserved victory indeed.
It's difficult to say how a healthy Woods would have fared in the windy conditions at Birkdale but I have no doubt he would have been right up there at the end. He has no problems knocking his " stinger " three iron 265 yards plus on tight holes and he is as good at hitting approach shots from 200 yards as some pro's. are from 150 yards, it would have been interesting to say the least.
