Re: The new age of Hybrids Rac, you've gotta do what's best for you. But when the best player in the world decides that a wider-bodied club that launches higher is better than an iron... well, you get the picture.

The inability of most high handicap golfers to hit long irons is the result of manufacturers altering degrees of loft .It used to be 5 iron for example was around 32 degrees, now around 28. Can you imagine how good it felt on company demo.days when you hit 10 to 15 yards farther with the demo. club. The loft on long irons was also altered. I would argue this is main reason long irons so difficult, hence the upsurge of interest in hybrids and rescue clubs. Just a thought.

| Re: The new age of Hybrids I've heard two arguments on loft creep. Arguement 1: Loft creep is the byproduct of companies trying to be longer. Start bending all the clubs strong, and players start gaining more distance. Arguement 2: Loft creep is the byproduct of game improvement designs. Oversized cavity back clubs would never get off the ground at 'old school' lofts. I back argument 1. The argument that an oversized cavity back iron can't get the ball up is bogus. Now, instead of hitting a 30° 5 iron, I hit a 30° 6 iron - in an oversized cavity back model - and it goes just fine.

Re: The new age of Hybrids I first played golf in the BC and BP era, I.E, before Callaway and before Ping. When manufacturers did'nt change models every year on the pretext of improvement. When you have a proven clubhead design why change unless you have a significant improvement?Sorry if I seem cynical butI think this trend to hybrids and so called rescue clubs I consider to be commercially motivated. Such is the power of advertising.

Re: The new age of Hybrids Ahhh the conedy of cynicism, join us Auldyn. This is how Mizuno got away with making the MP14/29 and then a few years later releasing the MP37 which is pretty much the same club. Its the same with the TP19 and MP33. Titleist have been bringing the same blades out for almost a decade now, all they do is change the size between each model and move the ridge in the back up and down a few eighths of an inch. D.
