Cool Re: Tiger is back from the clouds

I recently went to an LPGA tournament and Annika was playing. She didn't do so well considering that most of my neighborhood courses are much harder than the course they were playing in. Let's reverse the role: a PGA pro playing in the LPGA!!! Tiger and Vijay would of shot in the low 50's at Kingsmill if playing from equal distance tees. This is why I miss the whole notion that Annika is helping the LPGA by challenging the guys. It escapes me...

Re: Tiger is back from the clouds

Annika isn't playing on the PGA tour. She said she wanted to play once to she where she stacked up against the men. So far, that's all she has done - play one PGA tournament. She did it to improve her game and mental approach.
On the other hand, 15 year old Michelle Wie (who is VERY talented for a 15 year old), can't even win the women's amatuer, yet thinks she needs to play on the PGA tour. She didn't qualify for the US Open on the weekend and is making a mockery of herself.
Michelle's father needs to be taught a lesson or two by Earl Woods - teach your kid how to dominate. Learn to play with a lead. Learn to deal with being the best in the field. That is why Tiger is so god with a lead - he played in junior tourneys when he was a junior, no in the PGA.
As for where this thread started - Ernie Vijay, Phil and Retief miss a cut every year - no big deal. They can come back and win the next tourney. Tiger missing the cut means absolutely nothing other than the end of an amazing streak. You can bet Tiger will come out on FIRE in the next tourney he plays. Tiger is human and is entitled to a bad couple of rounds, I'm not sure why so much discussion is revolving around this topic.

Re: Tiger is back from the clouds

Are we back on this old chestnut about me hating Tiger??? I wasn't aware you could hate someone you had never met.....just like you cant like someone you never met.

I appreciate Tiger's talent (immense that it is) and his record is indeed pretty amazing. I just go along with Gord that the media coverage is reaching silly proportions and needs to be reined in.

Annika's achievements in the last few years surely rank above and beyond anything that any male player with the exception of Tiger and Vijay has done. The problem is too many people draw unfair comparisons to the mens tour and probably the dominant woman player will never truly achieve the recognition they deserve. And by the way, I disagree that an average PGA tour player would dominate the womens tour. A tough course is a tough course regardless of yardage. All that would happen with a male player on one of the LPGA courses is that he would have to use a lot of 3 woods to avoid getting too close to the greens on the shorter holes and from what I have seen of the coverage of the LPGA events the greens and the bunkers certainly dont look any easier. If power really was an issue on the LPGA Tour then Laura Davies would likely be world number one, but she isnt so it musnt be.

As for Michelle Wie, I think she will undoubtedly be a star when she turns pro, but just how much she will win depends very much on whether or not she can get the obsession she seems to have about proving herself against men out of her system. Its got a lot to do with her dad by the looks of it as a few on here have said. She hasn't had so great an amateur career so far (compared to someone like Paula Creamer for instance) but she is only 15 and should have a couple of more shots at the Amateur and hopefully gain in experience (Curtis Cup for example). The main thing will be that she doesnt turn pro too soon. There will be huge pressure for her to turn pro as soon as possible to generate the endorsment income she will no doubt attract (I dont know what the age of seniority is in the US but over here you are considered adult in the eyes of the law at 16).

This could run and run........

D.

p.s. Tiger sucks......... (that should keep Bigman happy).......

Re: Tiger is back from the clouds

18 is the legal adult age in the US. LPGA also has rules against becoming a pro before age 18. But you can apply for an exception to the rule if you can prove that you can compete well enough to be financially stable at a younger age on the tour. Which I think Michelle has done already.

I think you guys are right about her needing to get over her obsession about playing with the men. Dominate against the women then return to the subject of competing with the men when your a little more mature with your game and mentality.

Re: Tiger is back from the clouds

For those of you that like to "reverse the roles" what does the LPGA actually mean? And the PGA? see something interesting there?
