PGA Tour Championship

Thought I would start a new topic in here;

Any thoughts on the field for the PGA Tour Championship and the lacking participation of Tiger and Phil?

Most of the PGA players are grinding out participation week in and week out. If every player only played 15 events, like Tiger, we would need more players for the tour, wouldn't we? Phil played 19 events. Jim Furyk played 19, Vijay 26, and Jeff Ogilvy played 19 (to round out the top five on the money list). Any thoughts here?

dont see many of them making 700 tour games like sam torrance did earler this year.
why play more if you can earn a good living playing 25 game a year.
it at a stage where the guy thats 200 in the mony list earns over $800.000 in the year.and thats a guy you have not even heard off or has won anything,
it starting to be all about the money on the pga more and more. i can see the day when the top playes only play to earn enough to get into the majors and thats all.

To me the Tour Championship is like a year end bonus for those in the top 30. 30 golfers no cut everyone gets a nice check regardless how they play. It is obvious that Phil and Tiger really do not care about extra income.

On the other hand I think that the PGA is trying to address your concerns and attempt to get the bigger names to play more after july with their new format next year. We will see how it works.

Personally with the money these guys are making, I doubt if too many of the super stars will play in more then 20 PGA events a year. Then throw in maybe a Ryder cup/ Presidents cup, and 2 or 3 over seas events. (hard to turn down those million dollars appearance fees some of the events give out). So the Stars will play an event every other week and have no need to play more then that so I doubt they ever will again.
