Sergio Spits in the Cup

Suprised nobody mentioned the Sergio incident from the last tournament. What is everybodies thoughts on Sergio spitting into the cup after making a bogey?

My thoughts is it really shows his lack of maturity. With his talent I think it's the second biggest reason he hasn't won a major....the first being his putting.

Actually the first time I've ever seen anybody spit in the cup. Pretty disgusting when you got players coming up behind you. It also gives a lot of creadence to some of the US Ryder cup quotes after it was over. Something like, We were beat by 11 men and 1 little kid.

Re: Sergio Spits in the Cup

I was actually annoyed at how easily the media let it pass. I expected it to be a bigger story. I saw on golf central where they asked him about it and he said more or less nothing and they just let it go. I already had an unexplainable dislike for Sergio - that just helped me justify it. An act of stupidity. Showed his class I guess. I would've been really pissed if I was playing behind and then saw that on TV later.

Thanks for referring to them as a defeats, and not one of the more descriptive words it could of been called.

Re: Sergio Spits in the Cup

I think sergio is a frustrated man.
He cant win even though he knows he has the talent.
He cant figure out what he needs to do to win = frustrated.
I was watching the tour cast on the internet of live feeds from the masters last year. I watched Tiger Woods hack up a loogie and spit it right on on the green..........at Augusta !!! Still not the same as spitting in the cup.........that was just stupid. If he is not embarassed about that he is an arse.

Re: Sergio Spits in the Cup

He was interviewed about it on TV after his round. He did not apologize but did say he thought it was no big deal and if he had made a mess that would have affected another player, he would have cleaned the cup. Not exactly the best answer.

Personally, if I was playing with someone who did that during a round, I would be outraged. Etiquette is a huge part of this game and spitting in general, not to mention the cup, is rude if nothing else.

Will this be another "Paul Casey" situation? Doubt it.

Silly boy should have been DQed for just being a complete idiot...spitting in the cup...what's next, pull out his "little putter" and relieve himself in there?

Re: Sergio Spits in the Cup

That incident echoed through our
membership like a shock wave. It
was an outrageous act.
(This weekend, though, I caught
sight on TV of a pro spitting on the
green. It went unnoticed)

Re: Sergio Spits in the Cup

hi
its a bad show and shows comtempt for the player following him. i am sure now he wished he had not done it. i wonder what the old pros would think of him doing that, the palmers, player and crenshaw, who hold the princpals of the game so highly.

Are these guys egos so big he cant just say....you know this is a tuff game and it got the best of me today and I am sorry for my innappropriate behavior . I cant change the past but I can work on the future .
If he would have said something to that effect he would have looked like a bigger man in my eyes.
Basically he spit on everybodies hand following him.......no big deal.

Re: Sergio Spits in the Cup

......a really stupid mistake by a (still) young man, who is just another in the new generation of pros who get their backsides wiped for them everywhere they go and have never had to think about anything.

The Palmers, Players, Sneads etc etc all had to work hard to make their careers, and to get to the stage where they were financially secure took some of them many years. Paying your dues, I think its called. These young guys today get feted by colleges up and down the US and after that get handed a nice big fat sponsorship deal and are pretty much made straight away.

I'm surprised it was Sergio though, there was a lot made about the influence of his father in the early days of his career and how he had instilled good manners and discipline in his son, but that might have just been a bit of Page Ranking spin.

And if its two 18 1/2-9 1/2 with 11 men and a boy, imagine if we had 12 men!!!!

D.
