Post U.S. Open 2007

Well chaps the time is upon us to witness all the greats struggle over the Oakmont Country Club for this years U.S. OPEN...

England's Nick Dougherty got off to a great start with a two under par round of 68 to lead at the end of day one...

Who do you think will triumph?

Re: U.S. Open 2007

Well, this is always the ugliest golf the pros can play (but to be honest, I like seeing scores around par. I get bored watching pros beat up courses, where the longest or gutsiest players tend to win because there's no punishment for missing fairways or hitting sand traps).

Hard to tell; though if you look at my Fantasy Golf selection you'll see 6 no-hopers

What did strike me watching on the 2nd day was the speed of the greens; normally I'm playing on really dead greens which I hate (unless there's been no rain when they turn to concrete), but the USGA were aiming for 13-14 on the stimp meter.

What on earth is it like to putt on a green that fast?

Re: U.S. Open 2007

How about Paul Casey's round yesterday. Over 10 strokes better than the field average.

Can't wait to see Bubba play. I got it on Tivo while I finish up some work.

I think the USGA has gotten carried away with the greens the past few years. I'm all for penalizing bad shots, but penalizing everything less than an absolute perfect shot is a little much.

I like the tall grass, penalizing bunkers, I'd just like to see the greens a touch more receptive. What I watched of the rounds so far today the greens do appear to be playing softer then they did Friday...did it rain there again?

Re: U.S. Open 2007

ive had a tenner (£10 pounds) on Justin Rose, he,s been playing out in the states maybe for this open, he just seems to be growing in confidence, problem is a certain tiger is on the prowl.

Re: U.S. Open 2007

I'd like to see Aaron Baddeley hold onto his lead and win it, head to head with Tiger. He seems to have all the parts of his game in place, so it's a question of keeping his head clear when the pressure's on.

Re: U.S. Open 2007

Being an Australian i would love to see Bads win it and have back to back Aussie wins, however Tiger can be an intimidating player and many players have lost tournaments when he is breathing down their neck. I would put Tiger odds on and my darkhorse would be Stuart Appleby

Re: U.S. Open 2007

What a great finish! Congrats to Angel Cabrera for keeping it together there at the end...Tiger's putt on 18 would have been one of the greatest in history had it gone in to take it a Monday playoff. Can't believe he missed the short 6 footer on 14!!! That was the tournament for Tiger.

This was easily the greatest test of golf anywhere, anytime in history. Great to have been able to watch it.

Re: U.S. Open 2007

Congratulations to the Argentenian. It was a great Open played on a great golf course. If all came right down to Tiger's last putt to determine the winner.

Re: U.S. Open 2007

hi
i agree it was a wonderful nail bitting finish and i was glad to see Cabrera win it, think his win will be great for argentenian golf and now looking forward to the open over here and what i think is the hardest course in the world.

Re: U.S. Open 2007

Disappointed for Badds, but after 3 rounds of 72, 70 and 70 on THAT course, it's not a particularly long stretch to say (given the scoring) that he was due for a let down.

I won the tipping comp at the golf club for correctly guessing the winners final 5 over par total, but, like many, didn't have Angel among my contenders to win.

Think I know what it might be like to putt on greens like those. Have polished floorboards at home and I'm sure they run at around 14 on the stimpmeter....

It was great to see someone with my build--right down to the duck walk--winning the U.S. Open. Viva El Pato!

Re: U.S. Open 2007

You wouldnt have even known Baddeley was playing after the first hole. The cameras never showed him the rest of the day. I would have liked to seen Tiger wipe that smile off Cabreras face by sinking that putt. Nothing against Cabreara .......it just would have made for more golf drama. If he sank that putt that place would have blown up. Oh well .....im sure Tiger has forgotten it by now with the new baby and all.
