Line on ball when putting?

Just wondering how many of you guys use this, I started with it last year. I put a line on the ball or use the line that the company puts on the side such as the Titleist Pro-V1's on the line I intend to hit the putt. This saved my game I just line it up and then completely forget about the line and focus solely on speed then set up to the putt line up the line on my putter with the line on my golf ball, take one look to confirm my speed thoughts then hit the putt.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and had success, and if you haven't and are experiencing problems try it out, it simplifies things so much and takes your brain out of the way.

I go one step further and balance balls in a salt water solution, then mark TDC with a dot. For putting, put the dot TDC, then stroke it.

A while ago I took video of a ball that I had balanced, and putted it down a putting mat with the dot at TDC, pointing straight left and pointing straight right. The TDC putt rolled end over end, while the other two putts veered as it tried to get the dot to the centerline (ie back in balance). There wasn't enough movement over the 10 feet to cause a miss if you had it center cup, but enough to miss the cup over 20 feet for sure.

I just used one of those plastic line things that you can buy for like 4 dollars, explain to me like how exactly you do this if you don't mind I'm interested in how it works.

hi
i do the same at lowpost with all my new balls. put then in a glass of water and add salt till it floats. spin the ball till it stops and mark the top with a dot then spin again, if the ball is balanced then a diffrent points will come up but if you start to get the same points conning up then you can work out what side off the ball is imbalanced and what is badly out of out of balance.
badly out of balanced ball go in the pratice bag and i put a ring round all the good balls. out of 10 i get about 2 bad balls and about 6 that are not to bad and the rest are good.

do you like the ball up with the hole or the line of your putt. i set the ball on the line i want to start the putt but i have seen guys line up for the hole and then line up the putter for the line of the putt.

There is another device.

It's battery powered and spins/rotates the ball on a cradle. Pop the ball on the cradle and close the cover, and let it go. The ball will find it's true SoG and as it is rolling on that line, you stick the tip of your Sharpey in a slot on the cover, and a perfect line is inscribed circling the ball. This is available at the golf stores.

I set it up on the line I want to hit the putt. It really simplifies it for me, I take my time until I get it on the exact line I want and it has made my stroke much better because I just attempt to make the ball start rolling on that line. It just really works for me and it takes alignment and putting stroke out of the question as far as a putt missing for me. Now if I miss a putt I know it's because of speed or a bad read. Gives me much more confidence and I don't seem to be as nervous over pressure putts because I just focus on my routine.

Hey Ted,

I remember seeing a youtube video where a guy saltwatered his golf balls and then put them in a check-go... and found the check go didn't exactly work as advertised. He ended up finding that the saltwater dot ended up on the side of the ball.

As Bill mentioned when you give the ball a little spin, if the dot comes back up fast, leave that ball for the shag bag as it's badly out of balance. If it comes back slowly, the ball is mostly balanced. If it comes up in a different spot, mark and test again. If it comes up in another different spot, it's well balanced. I usually end up testing well balanced balls 6 or 7 times, and they end up looking like they've got the chicken pox.

Thanks for letting me know about that guys, I'll have to start doing that because I can't imagine what an imbalanced balled could do ball flight wise if it doesn't even hold its putting line correctly.

if you find a ball just a little out of balance then put a + on the high point and have that to the back or front of the ball and the backspin takes over more than the out of balanced ball. having the weight to one side does have an effect in flight so knowing where the heavy point is is worth knowing.
likewise with putting. have the heavy point at the front off the ball so its rolling over the heavy point and the ball will not be much diffrent to a balanced ball. have the weight to one side of the ball and on a long putt it could make a difference.

I use that "Check & Go" ball spinning gizmo, and like the results I get. I use to use salt water method. The battery device is quicker, and cleaner to use. One thing a bout the ball spinner, you need to be sure keep fresh batteries in it. Once the batteries lose some of their juice, the rpms slow down, and balance point becomes suspect. GJS

Yeah I guess your right the ball spins so fast it shouldn't make a difference in the air.
