Varsity Golf Coach

I am a varsity golf coach and I am looking for some good practice drills to do with my players while indoors. This year I have some very young golfers that have little golf experience and I was wondering if anyone knows of any practice drills that would help a beginner.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Varsity Golf Coach

The thing I notice most with beginning golfers is how they always seem to come out of their spine angle because they want to see where the ball is going. Maybe try doing some drills hitting into nets with 1/2 and 3/4 swings while maintaining their spine angles throughout the entire swing.

Re: Varsity Golf Coach

hi
not so much a drill but get then to hit rubber pratice balls into a bucket. make a game of it and see who can get the most out of 6 ball.
what it does is it makes it fun but helps there hand and eye coordination and also gives then the feel of swing a golf club even if its only a 1/4 swing.

best of luck
bill

Re: Varsity Golf Coach

This may sound off the wall to most folks, but since you are indoors, why not do a little reading on ball flights. If they learn what causes a certain ball flight, they will have some idea as to how to fix it if it is wrong, or know how to hit it when it is to their advantage on the course. Here is a link with all kinds of info on different ball flights.

If not that then a little study hall on rules which you are probably already doing.

My grandson's highschool golf coach, when the weather is bad and they are forced indoors, has his team hit plastic, and/or foam balls off a thin piece of board. His goal is for them to learn to pick the ball clean off poor lies.
